Settle Beyond The Yellow Road by Valeria Hernandez is a composition that reflects the shared emotional journey between two people in a meaningful relationship.

This piece tells the story of traveling through life together, where each person supports and encourages the other to grow, succeed, and become the best version of themselves. Throughout the music, there are moments that represent both the highs and lows of life; times of excitement, uncertainty, struggle, and joy. The changing moods, dynamics, and energy within the piece symbolize the ups and downs that every relationship experiences.

Despite the challenges along the way, the underlying theme of the composition is love, trust, and unwavering support, showing how two people can continue forward together through every twist and turn of the road.

This composition is dedicated to Matt, he is the reason this piece exists.

An excerpt:
"Experience: Similar to my other works for electro-acoustic ensembles, the electronics are not meant to be heard as a distinct object to the ensemble. When performed with high levels of vertical alignment, the listener should hear a new emerging sound world. The musical material is centered on an augmented chord, a type of chord that is inherently unstable and is able to move in several directions for the tension/release cycle. For the listener, the melodic and harmonic material feels ungrounded for just long enough before grounding is found."

We sat down with Paul Millette on Set to Fire to talk about breaking free from the pressure to conform. It’s easy to judge our own progress when we measure it by someone else's yardstick, but the most compelling art happens when you lean into what makes your perspective different.
