The BILLION DOLLAR brunch hosted by Bobby D. Ehlert

Fundraising is constantly evolving and you cannot keep your event the same from year to year.

We get better by sharing data, resources and referrals.

We want all our non-profit partners to raise as much as possible! 💚

One time a year the best benefit auctioneers in the country gather together for 3 days.

Sharpening our skills.
Learning from each other.
And connecting. 💚

My team would love go do your event, but if we’re unavailable… I guarantee we’re going to recommend one of our peers - a top-notch benefit auction specialist to maximize your fundraising.

I went to auction school at 38 and didn’t start my own auction business until I was 43.

Why? Because of the negative talk in my head.

“Who are YOU to do this?”
“Who are YOU to run a stage and manage a crowd?”
“Why would non-profits choose YOU?”

And then I went to a conference in Vegas and met another auctioneer who said one simple thing….

“Do you know what’s POSSIBLE?”

And a switch flipped.

Maybe I CAN do this.
Maybe I CAN make a huge impact.

So I went to work.
I started building.
Created systems.
Studied Psychology.
Used my 20 years on TV and hired a stage presence coach.
And I joined a mastermind of other incredible female entrepreneurs.

Fast forward to today…
Now we do 65+ events a year across the southeast with a team of 4 auctioneers.

If nothing else from this post… it’s a reminder to get out of your head.

When you focus on SERVING others and the impact you can make… that’s when the magic happens.

Bigger is BETTER when it comes to your auction paddles.

3 digits. PRINTED. Large enough to read across the room.

Handwritten paddles are the worst. They slow down your clerking and lead to more errors.

Your paddle is an important data point you want to get RIGHT. 💚

“Can you do that thing and talk fast?” 😂

We hear it all the time. And yes- we can talk fast-ish.

But benefit auctions are different. People are drinking and having a good time.

The goal isn’t to blow through the live auction items.

The goal is to create engagement, energy and make it fun for the whole room. 💚

How to improve your paddle raise ⬇️

🎯 Pre-secure 30% of your goal before the paddles even go up. Momentum matters more than you think.

🎥 Add short video to a few of your giving levels. 10 seconds. Real faces. Real stories. Stops people cold.

🙌 Set a goal for the whole room, not just a number for one donor. Give them something to belong to.

💬 Ditch the transaction language. “$500 feeds a family” is a fact. “You’re the reason she doesn’t have to choose between rent and groceries” is a movement.

People don’t raise their paddle for a spreadsheet. They raise it for a feeling.

We ask for the seating chart.
Donor names.
We want you to walk the room with us when we arrive.

And we frequently try to meet these guests during the cocktail hour.

Because your auctioneer needs to make a connection and know where your top donors are sitting before the paddle raise starts.

You don’t kick off a $10K ask by guessing who’s in the room. You kick it off by making eye contact with the person who’s going to say yes first.

This is the prep work nobody sees.

And this is the prep that makes a difference. 💚

The paddle raise, fund-a-need, cash call… whatever you want to call it.

THIS MOMENT is when our non-profits partners raise the most.

Don’t make it an after thought.

This is your focus.
This is your story.
This is when your gala is no longer a transaction. It’s a movement.

One of the most fun revenue generators we’ve seen!

Guests “fish” for caviar and are rewarded with a very generous bump.

Revenue generators are a great way to make extra funds… but they’re also great for folks new to your organization.

Maybe they’re not ready to make a large donation or bid on a big auction item, but they can still participate and feel like they’ve done something.

Then ideally they have a great time and come back next year to give more! 💚
