Thanks to the students who participated in Paratus Protective Solutions, LLC first Self Defense Virtual Scenario Training Class! During this class they learned the elements of lawful self defense, South Carolina self defense laws, use of force considerations, equipment options, and self defense best practices. Participants were then guided through several virtual self defense scenarios and had to make use of force decisions based on what they observed.

In group discussion afterward they were given valuable feedback on their decision making and offered several opportunities for improvement in performance. The overall response from the participants was that this was one of the most valuable self defense classes that they had ever taken.

I had the honor of participating in the 2022 rehearsal for the reenactment of Washington’s Crossing . It was a little cold and rainy, but nothing compared to the conditions in 1776. Got to break off some rust from my close order drill which I last used in Parris Island in 1994. Even better I was able to conduct an 18th century military amphibious river crossing ( ). As I was riding the boat across the river I felt a small connection with those who crossed on that stormy winter day in 1775.⁣

Preparedness Requires Training ⁣

Unfortunately people with evil intentions are threatening places we previously felt safe with increasing frequency. It seems every week we hear of an active threat incident happening at a school, workplace, and place of worship. Thankfully, people are better preparing themselves on how to respond if they are faced with an active threat situation.⁣
⁣
I had the privilege last week to help train a group of people who have committed themselves to protecting a local house of worship. Their training focus was safe and proper use of fi****ms to stop an active threat. The training started with basic fundamentals and built up to more advanced fi****ms training. Their dedication to learning and training is a prime example of good people stepping up to help those who are in need.⁣
