We are part of a teaching institution with a long tradition of high quality education and leadership development.

We value teaching first, but recognize that scholarship and service are its essential complements. We encourage and reward all types of scholarship, emphasizing a balance between applied and pedagogical research, with discipline-based scholarship in a supporting role. Our focus on leadership development arises from our historical roots as The Military College of South Carolina. The core undergraduate program requires that all students be members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets, which serves as a learning laboratory for leadership. We also offer a non-military evening and summer undergraduate program, as well as an excellent graduate program, that focus on leadership development through both coursework and ancillary programs such as our Leadership Forum.

As part of a recent Beta Alpha Psi event, BSB Accounting and Finance students welcomed Will Motley and Ben Barnes from Johnson Lambert to Bastin Hall for a presentation on auditing in the insurance industry.

Motley and Barnes shared their professional expertise and gave students insight into the unique considerations involved in auditing insurance firms, connecting classroom concepts with real-world accounting and finance practices.

The BSB welcomed Joseph S. Steinberg to Bastin Hall for the Fall 2026 Finance Speaker Series, presented with PermCap Investment Office.

Steinberg, co-founder of Leucadia National Corporation and chairman of Jefferies Financial Group, joined guests for an evening of networking followed by a fireside chat exploring his experiences and insights from a distinguished career in finance and investing.

Events like the Finance Speaker Series connect our students and community with accomplished business leaders and provide opportunities to learn from their real-world experiences.

Here's another look at BSB students participating in The Citadel’s annual Leadership Day, an opportunity to learn leadership lessons beyond the classroom.

Experiences like these give our students the opportunity to learn from accomplished professionals, ask questions and see how the principles they study in Bastin Hall are applied in the real world.

BSB students took learning beyond the classroom today during The Citadel’s annual Leadership Day.

Some of our students spent time with members of the Class of '79, who shared their experiences, perspectives and leadership lessons gained throughout their careers and lives.

Other BSB students ventured off campus to see leadership and business in action, visiting Ethos Athletic Club and Lineage Logistics. These experiences gave students an opportunity to learn directly from professionals and gain insight into leadership, operations and organizational success in real-world settings.

Leadership Day is an important part of The Citadel experience, connecting students with people and organizations that demonstrate the principles they study in the classroom.

Congratulations to Dr. Junghwan (Jason) Park on earning the Best Paper Award at the SEINFORMS Conference!

Dr. Park received the recognition for his paper, “Fostering Positivity Versus Curing Negativity: A Meta-Analysis of Leader Humility and Narcissism.”

The award highlights the high-quality research being conducted by Baker School of Business faculty and their contributions to important conversations about leadership and organizational behavior.

Dr. Kirsten Passyn was recognized for her service as president of the Atlantic Marketing Association at the Fall 2026 Atlantic Marketing Association Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Passyn’s leadership reflects the impact BSB faculty have not only in the classroom and through their research, but also through service to their academic and professional communities.

Congratulations to Dr. Mark S. Rosenbaum! The International Journal of Emerging Markets accepted an article he co-authored. Based on interviews with 45 mothers in Colombia, “Constrained Risk Rationalization: How Economically Vulnerable Consumers Justify Counterfeit Purchases in Colombia’s Informal Markets” examines how economic necessity, social norms, and other factors influence decisions to purchase counterfeit goods, offering new insight into consumer behavior and vulnerability in emerging markets.

This work reflects the Baker School of Business’s commitment to research that addresses consequential marketplace issues and advances understanding of consumers, services, and emerging economies.
