We are part of a teaching institution with a long tradition of high quality education and leadership development.

We value teaching first, but recognize that scholarship and service are its essential complements. We encourage and reward all types of scholarship, emphasizing a balance between applied and pedagogical research, with discipline-based scholarship in a supporting role. Our focus on leadership development arises from our historical roots as The Military College of South Carolina. The core undergradu

ate program requires that all students be members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets, which serves as a learning laboratory for leadership. We also offer a non-military evening and summer undergraduate program, as well as an excellent graduate program, that focus on leadership development through both coursework and ancillary programs such as our Leadership Forum.

The Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC), housed in the BSB, continues to make an impact by helping veterans and military-connected entrepreneurs turn their ideas into successful businesses.

These numbers represent more than activity — they reflect VBOC’s commitment to providing veterans with the training, resources and one-on-one support they need to succeed as entrepreneurs.

Congratulations to Dr. William Money on the publication of his latest research!

His article, “AI is Not Taking Your Job — Someone Using AI Is!”, was published in the Journal of Information Technology Case and Application Research, Volume 28, Issue 3.

The article explores one of the most pressing questions facing today’s workforce: how artificial intelligence is reshaping the skills employees need to remain competitive. Rather than simply replacing jobs, AI is reshaping how work gets done — creating an advantage for those who know how to use it effectively.

BSB professor Dr. Richard M. Ebeling has a new book entitled "Liberty and the History of Economic Ideas: From the Ancients to the Austrian Economists."

In it, Ebeling takes readers on an intellectual journey spanning thousands of years, exploring how some of history’s most influential thinkers have shaped our understanding of economics, individual liberty and the role of government.

At the heart of the book is Ebeling’s argument that economic freedom and civil liberty are inseparable, and that understanding the economic ideas of the past can provide important perspective on the challenges facing society today.

We’re proud to share some exciting news about Dr. David Desplaces.

He has been selected to serve on a panel of specialists/experts for 2026-2029 as part of the Fulbright Specialist Program, a US Department of State initiative that pairs highly qualified US academics with host institutions abroad for short-term, project-based exchanges.

Through these collaborations, Fulbright Specialists share their expertise, strengthen institutional partnerships and foster the exchange of knowledge and ideas across cultures.

It’s officially back-to-school at the Baker School of Business! 📚

Today marks the first day of classes, and Bastin Hall is once again filled with students ready to learn, lead and take on a new academic year.

Whether they’re beginning their first semester or heading into their final year, our students have plenty of opportunities ahead to challenge themselves, build relationships with faculty and classmates, and develop the skills they’ll need to become principled business leaders.

Our faculty participated in today's Convocation. The event marks the beginning of the Class of 2030's academic journey.

This year’s keynote address was delivered by BSB professor Dr. John Dickens, recipient of the 2025–26 James A. Grimsley Jr. Award for Undergraduate Teaching Excellence.

He challenged the Class of 2030 to approach college as more than preparation for a career. It is an opportunity to “learn how to learn,” develop critical-thinking skills and prepare to solve complex problems they may encounter decades from now.

Dickens also offered practical advice for the cadets: be proactive, treat syllabi like contracts, use faculty as a resource, and, above all, own your education. His message emphasized that discipline, planning, hard work and a willingness to seek guidance can make the difference between simply attending college and making the most of the experience.

Congratulations to Dr. Dickens on this well-deserved honor and for helping our newest cadets begin their Citadel journey with purpose!

BSB faculty attended the general faculty meeting today, officially kicking off the new academic year.

The meeting offered updates on several key initiatives shaping the college’s future. Faculty also heard from the new Citadel president, Gen. Kenneth F. “Frank” McKenzie Jr., USMC (Ret.), ’79, who shared his priorities for the college as he assumes his new role.

Faculty and staff kicked off the new academic year today with our annual Fall Retreat!

The day gave us a chance to reconnect, share key school updates, and focus on the priorities that will guide us in the year ahead. Discussions covered the latest college news, cadet policies, fundraising initiatives, classroom expectations, and tenure and promotion standards.

Most importantly, the retreat gave our faculty and staff time to collaborate and prepare for what matters most — providing our cadets and students with an exceptional business education.
We’re energized for the year ahead and ready to get started!

BSB k***s are getting to know the professors who will help guide them through their academic journey!

This morning, our freshmen met with faculty members in their respective majors, giving them an opportunity to learn more about their fields of study, ask questions, and hear directly from the professors they’ll work with in the years ahead.

These early connections are an important part of helping our newest business students build relationships with faculty, understand the opportunities available within their majors and start planning for success.

We’re excited to watch the Class of 2030 grow into the next generation of principled business leaders!
