Excited to see this one starting to come to life . Staged and preassembled at a warehouse site while there’s easy access and the intricacies can be worked out easily. All before getting disassembled, shipped up to North Carolina and assembled again in a heavily wooded and steeply sloping hillside.

The Fabulous Ellen Bright Hall… a King Street communal gathering space and underground seafood spot that has sadly transitioned into story and legend. This long time local heartbeat will be getting some tlc and new life. The varied history of the site, from a shop on the railroad spur headed to Hampton park, housing, the Hall, an art gallery, the early greenheart HQ, plant shop, tool store and the stalwart Fresh Cuts barber shop owned by Sammy Smalls, among others over the last century.

Architecturally, it’s the quintessential hodgepodge, with ad hoc appendages and modifications everywhere… and where the western fake facade came from no one knows for certain. The past 100 plus years of life in these spaces is an encyclopedia of stories, If only walls could talk!!! Many thanks to the community members who have talked so passionately about their memories and hope they continue to do so!

The exterior facade design and coordination of the Masonic Hall of Charleston was a project unto itself. Years (actually decades) in the making, and too many twist and turns to count, it would not have come to life without the expertise and wisdom of Dave Jackson who put off retirement for the sake of making the gfrc casts and the exterior of this building beautiful.… and it shows!! Jesse Rhodes of was also instrumental in helping create the complex, 3d shapes needed to replicate the craftsmanship of old.

The client asked for an open airy house, the site has some gorgeous south facing views…. With harsh summer sun in the coastal southeast climate, overhangs were critical to provide comfort both inside and out.
