The importance of knowing and being curious about your customers and not taking them for granted - this will make you one step ahead of them. These giants; Costco, Sams Club - have been relying on that the newer generation customers behavior continue to be the same as the Baby Boomer generations.
You need to know your customers behaviors, what are their pains and gains. How does their everyday life look like.
What makes them loyal to you and your brand, what keeps them motivated to do business with you? And if they are not motivated you better find out how you can engage them. You need to adapt your business to approach them in a way that motivates them.
All this can easily be done by customer journies, personas, branding and user research - these acitivities are regardless of if you are Costco, Sams Club or a small local business owner.
