Our Alumni Gatherings give us a chance to reconnect, meet Bridge Builders from other cohorts, share some laughs, and continue building the relationships that started during the cohort experience.

We had such a great time at our latest gathering, hosted by Coalición Latinoamericana during Hispanic Heritage Month. 🙌

As our alumni community continues to grow, we want the relationships within it to grow right along with it.

The cohort experience may bring us together, but it’s only the beginning of what we hope continues long after. 🧡

We’re not sure who needs to hear this, but… BELIEVE. 💪

You don’t need everyone else to see it before you do.

Believe that thing you’ve been imagining is possible.
Believe there’s another way forward.
Believe relationships can be repaired.
Believe people can grow.
Believe you have something meaningful to contribute.

You don’t need every answer before you believe. Sometimes you just need enough audacity to believe that what you see could be is worth moving toward.

So go ahead. Dream a little bigger. Take the next step. Make the call. Start building.

We can spend a lot of time looking around at what everyone else needs to change.

But what if we started with ourselves?

In this Bridge Builder Conversation, actress and singer Maria Howell (Maria Howell) sits down with David “Dae-Lee” Arrington (Dae-Lee (Bridge Builder)) and reflects on the power each of us has to shape the world around us.

In consequential moments, listening is leadership.

When disagreement is high or relationships feel strained, our instinct can be to respond quickly, defend our perspective, or make sure our voice is heard.

Bridge Builders understand that healthy relationships require something deeper. A willingness to slow down, stay curious, and listen long enough to genuinely understand what someone else is saying and experiencing.

We may still disagree. We may still see things differently. But listening with the intent to learn can change how we understand one another and how we move forward together.

We’re all in a moment.

Every day, we experience consequential decisions and significant leadership changes within the institutions and organizations that shape our lives.

There are always plenty of conversations about whether particular decisions are right or wrong. That’s not the conversation we want to add to.

The question underneath it all is:

How strong are the relationships and trust between the people entrusted to lead our institutions, organizations, and the communities their decisions impact?

We believe most leaders genuinely desire to do well for the people and places they serve. But good intentions alone don’t create connection, trust, or the understanding necessary to make a positive impact.

Those things have to be cultivated.

Especially when we disagree.
Especially when decisions are difficult.
Especially when the stakes are high.

Relationships and trust aren’t simply nice things to have. They are essential infrastructure.

And moments like these continue to remind us why that infrastructure matters.

As AI continues to change how we work and lead, what if our ability to connect with one another becomes even more important?

That’s the perspective Mike Whitehead brings as a Relationships Shape Everything Founding Steward.

Having spent decades coaching and equipping leaders through the Center for Intentional Leadership, Mike has seen firsthand the importance of the human side of leadership.

Technology will continue to evolve. But our ability to build relationships, cultivate trust, and create cultures where people can thrive remains deeply human.

We’re grateful to have Mike standing with us and bringing that perspective to the vision for a more connected and trusting Charlotte. 🧡

Three weeks later, and we’re still encouraged by what happened in this space. 🧡

30+ leaders gathered in person at Sparkhouse Charlotte. 90+ Charlotteans registered to join us virtually. Different sectors, communities, perspectives, and experiences brought into one conversation around the future of the city we share.

There was honesty about the disconnection and lack of trust many are experiencing.

But there was also hope. Optimism. Possibility.

A belief that as we strengthen the relational capacity of the leaders shaping our organizations and communities every day, we can build deeper relationships, cultivate greater trust, and create the conditions for a healthier Charlotte.

And this gathering was only one step.

We’re just getting started. 🧡
