The U.S. Department of State has fully implemented a bond requirement for B-1/B-2 non immigrant visas ranging from $10 000 - $20 000 per visa from 50 countries, mostly in Africa with immediate effect. The amount of bond lies at the discretion of the consulate officer.

This applies to individuals born in a particular country regardless of citizenship.

This rule not not include South Africa, but does include countries like Namibia, Zimbabwe and Botswana.

The full list of countries here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/countries-subject-to-visa-bonds.html

A draft notice published Friday in the Federal Register says a nearly year-long review “provided sufficient data” to suggest the bond program effectively enforces compliance with visa conditions, and would be made permanent.
