Late last year, I convened a group of leaders in the Nigerian tech industry to meet with the President of a U.S. university. The purpose was to discuss training Nigerians in high-growth areas to enable them to participate in the global economy.

Obi Asika and Uche Emembolu, both long friends of mine, were two of the dinner participants. They mentioned that they were planning a conference in Lagos, to be called “The Omniverse,” focusing on the digital economy in Africa, across several verticals: digital assets, AI, arts, and culture, among others. I was intrigued and asked them to keep me posted.

I am happy to report that The Omniverse is here and will be kicking off on February 26 at Landmark Centre in Lagos. The aim of the conference is to create a connected ecosystem where like-minded individuals can build value exchanges that enable all community partners. I am excited to participate, and I encourage everyone to check it out at www.theOmniverse.africa. Please feel free to attend if you can. Happy MLK Day!! For me, this is a day of personal reflection. Every year, on this day, I make it a point to reread MLK's "Letter from Birmingham Jail." Forgive me if you've heard me say this before, but I consider the letter to be the finest piece of rhetoric America has ever produced - even above the Emancipation Proclamation.

Too many people quote MLK in an anodyne, defanged way. He must not be reduced to the simple quote about his children being judged by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. Okay, cool, that's one quote. (One I happen to agree with, once you take the full measure of the quote.) But juxtaposed against everything else he said and wrote, the evidence becomes clear that MLK wasn't some milquetoast dude - he was a RADICAL. A radical in thought, word, and deed. And he had the government SHOOK.

For the enduring force of his ideas, the keenness of his intellect, the sheer power of his rhetoric, and yes - for the passion he manifested in all facets of his life, MLK is the greatest American to have ever lived.

It is high time we reclaim MLK's legacy. By which I mean, the full measure of the man - warts and all. If you have not read Letter from Birmingham Jail, or have not done so in a while, please take the time to do so today. And as you do so, reflect on the fact that he wrote this on scraps of paper smuggled into his jail cell. From memory.
