Why do we remove topsoil?
Well the short of it is, topsoil isn't a buildable product for a structure.
In fact there are several unsuitable or undesirable soils that can exist on a jobsite. Sometimes these soils are a surprise on a project, other times they are planned in the export or spoils use part of the job. Large scale excavation projects have geotechnical analysis' done to bore and determine the soils on site to eliminate these surprises.
So, topsoil is great for growing grass, various plants etc. But not great under structures or driveways. Generally things that take a point load, one way or another.
So this is why we remove topsoil or utilize it on site in a non structural capacity. ️✅️
