Your strategy has to be sustainable which will require adequate support.

Without it, you will be increasingly exhausted by:

📝expanded workloads.
📝emotional labor.
📝lack of sponsorship.
📝burnout from sustained over-performance.
📝inadequate staffing.

If you’re questioning your ability to perform, the issue may not be capability. Instead, consider the long-term cost of carrying high performance without sustainable support.

Happy Mother’s Day to the women carrying responsibilities both seen and unseen.

To the mothers leading teams, building businesses, managing households, supporting others, and still finding a way to show up with excellence every day - you matter, not just today, but every day.

I hope you will give yourself permission to celebrate not just what you do for others, but who you are beyond your roles and responsibilities.

Happy Mother’s Day❤️

As I close out my birthday month, I’m excited about the next chapter - literally. 🎉

After publishing my autobiography, “Unwilling: Refusing To Play A Game That Isn’t Mine”, I’ve had exchanges that I simply cannot afford to ignore.

As a FGP (First Generation Professional), I had to learn firsthand that getting a job isn’t the same as managing a career.

Now, I’m sharing my insights and information via my Substack newsletter “The Black Woman’s Corporate Brief.”

Feel free to check out my first 2 posts and definitely subscribe if you’re interested.

Last week during “The Anxiety of It All: Why Achievement Doesn’t Always Feel Like Enough”, I wanted to elevate an aspect of Imposter Syndrome we don’t talk about enough - environment.

Imposter Syndrome doesn’t show up everywhere. It shows up in specific environments.

That distinction matters.

High achievers are not suddenly doubting their competence in every room, they are often misdiagnosing.
In other words, you’re not tackling a confidence issue, you’re dealing with a context issue.

Instead of asking: “Why do I feel like I don’t belong here?”

Ask: “What about this environment is making me question what I already know I’m capable of?”

Thank you Ebony Boyd, MPA, CSAEd for allowing me to co-facilitate this session with you.

Out Of The Office

What she’s saying isn’t 100% incorrect, but it is incomplete.

What she’s not taking into consideration is remote environments.

What’s she’s not taking into consideration is the aspects of a woman’s life that require flexibility, which in many cases enhances her performance - not diminishes it.

What’s she not taking into consideration is that promotion definitions traditionally have been tied to hierarchy meaning upward mobility comes with advancement.

I work with my clients to challenge this way of thinking when discussing advancement.

What I’ve found is women driving their careers want the following:

✅Deeper expertise
✅Autonomy
✅Impact
✅Compensation
✅Influence

And because they don’t want exhaustion in the process, they’ll find ways to get these things and more - even if it means not being in the office.

Slay in your lane and work your career in ways that work for you.
