What began as an aggressive dream has truly become a purposeful legacy of growth, vision, and opportunity.

Do Greater Charlotte Foundation | Sparkhouse Charlotte was founded by visionary William McNeely who believes young people, creatives, entrepreneurs, and emerging talent deserve more than access; they deserve spaces, programming, and leadership that help them recognize their capabilities.

This summer’s ribbon-cutting celebration was more than an organizational milestone; it marked the evolution of a dream into a living, growing ecosystem where youth can explore entrepreneurship, creative industries, technology, design, and personal development through hands-on camps and year-round programming.

Having the honorable Harvey B. Gantt | Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture| present made the celebration even more meaningful, as he owns this building that he originally purchased to house his architecture firm. As the City of Charlotte Government's first Black mayor, a pioneering architect, and a lifelong civic leader, his presence connected this milestone to a broader legacy of barrier-breaking leadership, community-building, and possibility for the next generation.

D. Wilson Agency was grateful to celebrate a moment that reflects what purposeful community investment can make possible: stronger organizational capacity, expanded youth programming, new pathways for creatives and entrepreneurs, and deeper belief in Charlotte’s next generation. We are especially proud as our CEO, DeAlva Wilson Arnold serves as Board Chair and helps advance this vision.

Thanks to all who joined us Tuesday evening, May 26th, at First Baptist Church-West for Congressman James E. Clyburn's Fireside Chat and book signing with Mayor Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture.

This was far more than a gathering, it was an intentional evening of reflection, dialogue, and community during a time when our city, region, and nation continue navigating important conversations around leadership, economic opportunity, public trust, education, infrastructure, and voting rights.

D. Wilson Agency, Community Engagement and Impact is especially grateful to the elected officials, faith leaders, community advocates, business leaders, educators, students, media representatives, and distinguished guests who filled the room with insight, purpose, and engagement. We were honored to welcome leaders such as Leonard Springs, Walter Davis, Joyce Brayboy, Gigi Dixon, Yebbie Watkins, and Howie Davis, whose work across advocacy, philanthropy, infrastructure, business, and community development continues to shape Charlotte and communities beyond.

We are also thankful for the enduring leadership of organizations including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, and the Beta Delta Boule of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity whose attendance and longstanding commitments to scholarship, service, civic engagement, and leadership reflect exactly why evenings like this matter.

A special thank you to Congressman Clyburn, who was extraordinarily gracious with his time throughout the evening, engaging thoughtfully with members of the local and national media, speaking personally with attendees, and signing every single book placed before him, nearing nearly 300 signatures by the evening’s end. His generosity, accessibility, and commitment to public service left a lasting impression on everyone.

It might not be what you are saying but how you are saying it.
Executive presence is the difference between being heard and being followed. The leaders who move rooms do five things well. They slow down. They choose simple language. They stand still when it matters. They let silence work. They finish with a clear ask.

Content gets attention. Presence earns trust.

Why your data is not driving results

If the numbers are not changing what people do next, the problem is not the data. It is the way the team is using it.

Too many metrics means no focus. When everything is tracked, nothing is prioritized. Keep a small set that covers outcome, driver, and quality so attention converges.

Vague definitions create messy decisions. Every metric needs a plain language definition, the exact formula, the source, and an update cadence so conversations move from opinion to clarity.

No ownership means no action. Give each metric one owner with the authority to fix red trends. Shared ownership dilutes urgency and accountability.

Weak operating rhythm makes insights go stale. A short weekly review that ends with one committed action per metric beats a long monthly meeting with no follow through.
