Thanks to all who joined us Tuesday evening, May 26th, at First Baptist Church-West for Congressman James E. Clyburn's Fireside Chat and book signing with Mayor Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture.
This was far more than a gathering, it was an intentional evening of reflection, dialogue, and community during a time when our city, region, and nation continue navigating important conversations around leadership, economic opportunity, public trust, education, infrastructure, and voting rights.
D. Wilson Agency, Community Engagement and Impact is especially grateful to the elected officials, faith leaders, community advocates, business leaders, educators, students, media representatives, and distinguished guests who filled the room with insight, purpose, and engagement. We were honored to welcome leaders such as Leonard Springs, Walter Davis, Joyce Brayboy, Gigi Dixon, Yebbie Watkins, and Howie Davis, whose work across advocacy, philanthropy, infrastructure, business, and community development continues to shape Charlotte and communities beyond.
We are also thankful for the enduring leadership of organizations including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, and the Beta Delta Boule of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity whose attendance and longstanding commitments to scholarship, service, civic engagement, and leadership reflect exactly why evenings like this matter.
A special thank you to Congressman Clyburn, who was extraordinarily gracious with his time throughout the evening, engaging thoughtfully with members of the local and national media, speaking personally with attendees, and signing every single book placed before him, nearing nearly 300 signatures by the evening’s end. His generosity, accessibility, and commitment to public service left a lasting impression on everyone.
