AgeWell Advocacy

AgeWell Advocacy Welcome! I'm Travis Friot, the Founder and Elder Advocate of AgeWell Advocacy.

As a Gerontologist (aging expert), I provide care management all across the United States.

There will probably come a time when your loved one with dementia may no longer be able to have conversations like they use to.

Yes/No questions can create communication when open ended questions become too overwhelming.

👉You can still communicate with your loved one with dementia. If you have questions about this, I'd love to talk. Call me at 803-486-5322 for a free 15 minute initial consultation.

Sometimes I get questions about how a caregiver can communicate with and spend quality time with their loved one who has late stage dementia; including Alzheimer's.

Activities don't have to be loud and exciting. In fact, loud and exciting is often not the best way to support a person with dementia while honoring comfort and dignity. I write about some of this in my most recent blog on my website.

👉Comment "activities" or message me if you would love a link to this blog. No pressure - just support.

When you're caring for your mother, or any other older loved one, Mother's Day can come with mixed emotions. You may be feeling overwhelmed and burned out.

As a Gerontologist (aging expert), Certified Dementia Practitioner, and with over a decade of aging services experience, I provide care management for people, age 55+, and people who care for them. I'm proud to support people all throughout the United States and have created an affirming space for the LGBTQ+ community and allies.

🤝Let me support you with relief and peace of mind. You can call me at 803-486-5322 to schedule a free 15 minute initial consultation. Let's see if I'm a good fit - no pressure.

Disabled and proud baby. I lead with a disability informed perspective. I lead with lived disability experience.

I’ve navigated the many systems and situations that weren’t designed with disability in mind.

Love this post if inclusion matters to you.

Charlotte Pride In Aging Professionals invites you all to our May 19th, at 11am, Coffee With Pride! I created this mission driven networking group to support Charlotte NC area LGBTQ+ elders.

🧑‍🏫 I'll be speaking about LGBTQ+ aging. This will be a beautiful presentation that is an introduction to LGBTQ+ elders. As a Gerontologist (aging expert), Certified Dementia Practitioner, Disability Advocate, and Care Manager, I am proud to have my business, AgeWell Advocacy, as a certified LGBTQ+ business enterprise and credentialed through SAGECare (a credential that supports LGBTQ+ elders).

📍We meet at the Carolina's LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce Impact Center; a wheelchair accessible and LGBTQ+ affirming space with plenty of free onsite parking. The address is 2838 Queen City Drive, Suite A, Charlotte NC, 28208.

Please RSVP to me at [email protected] and let me know if you want to be added to the monthly Charlotte Pride In Aging Professionals newsletter for meeting announcements, opportunities, and events.

Also, thank you to Matt McDonough, with Equitable Advisors, for sponsoring this month!

I enjoyed attending the Central Piedmont Community College Small Business Day Celebration today!

There was a great lunch, classes, and networking for local small business owners. The small business center has helped me so much with learning how to build and grow AgeWell Advocacy.

Let me know in the comments why supporting small businesses is important to you!

Yesterday, I gave a beautiful Zoom presentation to a SAGE dementia caregivers support group. SAGE is a national nonprofit that supports LGBTQ+ elders.

I was proud to talk about meaningful activities, how we can adapt activities as the dementia progresses, and I showed my list of age appropriate and holistic activity supplies as well as inspiring videos on how therapeutic music can be.

Do you have questions about how you can add to the quality of life of your older loved one? Leave a comment and I'll be sure to get in touch.

I'm feeling better and wanted to publish this month's blog!

In this month's blog, I write about my experiences as an activity professional and how I have carried that work into my care management.

Caregivers and aging service marketing professionals, this one has some info you may not realize you need to read. I was inspired to write this after creating my downloadable Dementia Caregiver Activity Guide.

Throughout my career as a Gerontologist, otherwise known as an expert, I've worked with family who missed communicating with their loved ones with , including 's, and helping them to enjoy their days. That's why I created the Dementia Caregiver Activity Guide.

Meaningful activities can help your loved one with dementia to sleep better, experience more joy and sense of accomplishment, focus less on pain and discomfort, and create a stronger bond with family. My favorite part about this guide is that it helps you to create these moments no matter how far along your loved one is with their dementia journey.

This guide includes...

* step by step guidance for introducing meaningful activities
* simple activities that can be adapted for different abilities
* tips for reducing frustration and encouraging engagement
* how to adapt activities as the person's dementia progresses
* printable worksheets for helpful reflections as you learn what works best

If you're interested in exploring more activities and how they can support your loved one with dementia, comment "Activities" or send me a private message. I'm here to support you!

This past Sunday, I enjoyed being a vendor at the local Trans & Non-Binary Market!

This is a time where coming together to create inclusive spaces really matters. Showing up in spaces like this is important to me as the Founder & Elder Advocate of AgeWell Advocacy. This also reminds me why I created the mission driven networking group Charlotte Pride In Aging Professionals; where we work to support Charlotte NC area + elders.
