Faster Glass

Faster Glass We guide and equip teams to spot non-obvious risks and opportunities, and co-create practical solutions that work. And stick. Clients bring the challenge.

We bring the structure, tools, and experience to help them create what matters. But we don't walk into an engagement with prepackaged or off-the-shelf solutions. Cut-and-paste is not how we roll.

To innovate our way through disruption, we must be able to influence our colleagues, our customers, and our partners to unlearn and rethink. Easier said than done, but there are some proven, research-based techniques we can use.

Join us at the Oct. 15th Forward Faster by Design virtual session when we'll explore approaches that have been proven to move people to reimagine long-held assumptions and beliefs. Click on the link to register.

To innovate our way through disruption, it's not enough that we rethink our individual assumptions and beliefs. We also need to be able to influence others to unlearn and rethink. Easier said than done, but there are some research-based techniques we can employ to nudge others beyond entrenched positions.

That's the focus of the Oct. 15th Forward Faster by Design virtual session. We'll look at tactics that DON'T work as well as approaches that have been proven to move people to reconsider their views. Click on the link to register.

The term "diversity" often brings to mind human attributes that we can see, such as ethnicity, gender, and age. As we continue to wrestle with challenges related to equity and inclusion in our companies and communities, these attributes are understandably in the spotlight.

But when it comes to innovation, we should look at diversity much more broadly. Why? Because diversity of perspective influences what we see and how we respond. Someone who regularly interacts with customers in a Call Center has different insights about a company's products than someone in the C-suite. Left-handed people have a point of view about usability that righties might never consider. And women have endless stories about experiences with products and services that clearly were designed by men, for men. Not with malicious intent, mind you, but no less frustrating.

So what can we do differently?

In our next Forward Faster by Design session on Feb. 19th, we'll share simple tools, such as "Exclusion Lens" and "Diversity Grid", that organizations can use to intentionally seek out diverse perspectives to guide the development of innovative and inclusive solutions. We'll also look at the immediate and long-term benefits of "designing with, not for" key stakeholders.

Even as we pause on this day to give thanks, we can't help but think about the intractable challenges confronting our communities and our neighbors. At times, some of these challenges, such as homelessness and educational inequity, seem insurmountable. As if our only options are to give up or to continue struggling with a Sisyphean task. But what if there were another way? Can we actually solve 'unsolvable' problems?

That's the topic of our next Forward Faster by Design virtual event on Friday, Dec. 11th. To be sure, solutions to complex issues are, well, complicated – but achievable. As part of our exploration, we will take a ride upstream and look at the tools and benefits of systems thinking, finding points of leverage, and shifting mental models. We will also hear from three experts, Rosalyn Allison-Jacobs, Tracey Greene-Washington, and Liz Winer, who are approaching systems change in innovative ways to get ‘stuff’ done.

If you're looking to learn more about how to make meaningful change in the face of 'unsolvable' problems, we hope you'll join us. Click on the link below to learn more and register. https://www.fasterglass.com/forward-faster

How much time, money, and energy do we waste solving the wrong problems? As if that weren't bad enough, it's incredibly demoralizing for everyone involved to build a great bridge only to discover it's over the wrong river. But what if we could get better at identifying the right problems to solve?

We'll explore these questions and more at our next Forward Faster by Design event on Nov. 13th. We'll dig into some of the factors, like problem blindness, prior knowledge, and anchoring bias, that influence how we define the challenges we face. We'll also share specific techniques for framing (or reframing) problems more effectively so we can better invest our most precious resources in service of the people, organizations, and communities we care about.

Imagine someone who has only ever ridden a single-gear bicycle. Until one day, they're given a new 24-speed bike. Exciting, yes! Except they're not aware of the additional capabilities of their new ride, so they continue on as they had before with one gear. They're satisfied but completely oblivious to how much farther and faster they could have traveled with less effort.

The same could be said for us when we don't utilize visual thinking in our collaboration efforts. We over-rely on words, which causes us to unknowingly work far below our innate human capabilities. So how might we break our old habits to embrace a better way of collaborating, especially now that so many of us are having to work remotely?

That's the first topic of the new Faster Glass virtual series, GSD Differently. Join us on Thursday, Sep. 3rd, from 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM for an interactive workshop filled with visual collaboration tips and tools you can immediately apply to your team, organization, or community. At first blush, luck may appear to have little, if anything, to do with how we see. But psychologist Richard Wiseman argues that luck - both good and bad - is a function of how we perceive and react to opportunities. To oversimplify, "lucky" people are more open to new experiences, while their "unlucky" brethren are more narrowly focused and stuck in routines. So what does this have to do with innovation?

In our May 8th virtual Forward Faster by Design event, we'll explore how our orientation toward risk and opportunity fuels our creative capacities. We'll also hear from local innovation practitioners and artists about how they intentionally open their apertures and create the conditions for "happy accidents."
