A man at the top of his field nearly convinced himself he wasn't... because a tool let him down.
He was asked to write a manual on what makes him exceptional. He had the mastery. He'd just never written a manual, and he didn't know where to begin. So he tried AI. It failed him. And that failure whispered something dangerous... maybe you're not the expert you thought you were.
I watch this every week. We let an external setback rewrite an internal truth.
So I changed what he asked the tool to do. Stop asking AI for the answer, I told him. Just talk out what makes you the best, and let it mirror that back. The moment he saw his own expertise on the page... structured, clear, undeniable... his confidence came roaring back. And then he started catching the places AI guessed wrong.
He didn't need to know AI better. He needed to bring himself to it.
That's the real literacy. Not “use AI faster.” Learn the tool, understand what's behind it... and then bring your human judgment to everything it produces. AI will stretch your thinking, but it will never lean over and say “by the way, did you think about this?”
Only you do that.
That partnership has a name. Human AI. The human in charge.
You're not behind on AI. And a tool failing you is not proof you've lost your edge. You might just need to say out loud what you already know.
