The gravity of being on an airplane today is not lost on me.

I was a senior in high-school and I still remember running down the hall in my high-school screaming "TURN ON THE TVS, TURN ON THE NEWS'

When the bell rang, no one moved. The halls were empty. Teachers didn't know what to so. So they let us watch.

The bodies falling that they tried to say was debris.
The people screaming.

Covid changed a lot, sure, and people younger than me will mark that as their culture change event - but the attack on The Towers fundamentally changed everyone who saw it, and the way everyone interacted with the world after it.

We experienced a death event as a culture, nation, and species and collectively didn't know what to do about it. And still don't.

There is an adorable little girl and her family seated the row in front of me. All I can think of is what it must have been like in those impossible moments for those passengers to know and accept what was coming.

I work with death every day, and even 25 years later, Im still not ok.

Most people think adding another license to your CV is about adding another revenue stream. For me, it's about adding another way to serve.

This year, I'm adding new licenses to my professional toolkit.

Not because I'm changing careers, because I'm expanding what an End-of-Life Doula or Deathworker can be.

For too long, we've accepted the idea that doulas should stay in one lane while our clients are forced to navigate planning, funeral arrangements, legacy conversations, and end-of-life decisions through a dozen different professionals.

I don't believe that's the future of our profession.

I believe the future belongs to doulas who are educated, interdisciplinary, and financially sustainable.

Imagine being able to help a family:
✔️ Have the hard conversations.
✔️ Create an end-of-life plan.
✔️ Build a meaningful legacy.
✔️ Understand funding options before there's a crisis.
