Picking up the slack is part of being a strong team.

In a successful organization, everyone understands the value they bring to the group, while also appreciating the value others bring.
But teamwork is tested when life or work gets difficult.

While completing my MBA over five semesters, my wife and I were both working, and we were also preparing for the birth of our first child. There were times when my responsibilities at home made it difficult to stay completely on top of everything in my classes.

Fortunately, I was part of a small team.
When my wife was having our son and my responsibilities at home increased, my teammates stepped in and picked up my slack. When things became calmer at home, I was able to step up and fill the gaps when other teammates were experiencing challenges or changes in their lives.
That is what a strong team does.

It does not keep a score when someone needs help. It recognizes that responsibilities shift, circumstances change, and sometimes someone needs another person to step in.

Being willing to pick up the slack today may be what allows someone else to do the same for you tomorrow.
That is not a weakness in a team. It is one of the things that makes a team strong.

Progress Over Perfection.

How often do we hold ourselves back because we’re waiting for the perfect answer?

The perfect plan. The perfect timing. The perfect opportunity. The feeling that we are completely ready.

In reality, most of us rarely get that kind of certainty.

In business, leadership, and even in our everyday decisions, there will always be another question to answer, another detail to work through, or another variable we couldn’t have anticipated. If we wait until everything is perfect, we may spend more time preparing to move than actually moving forward.

That doesn’t mean we should rush into decisions or ignore the importance of preparation. It means recognizing when we have enough information to take the next right step.

Sometimes that step is small. Sometimes it means making a decision, trying something new, having a difficult conversation, or simply getting started.

And once you take that step, you learn. You adjust. You get better. Then you take the next one.

That’s where real progress happens.
