Excellence Doesn't Happen by Accident.

Frank Vitale recently joined Monongalia County Schools administrators at their summer retreat for a session on leadership and the challenges facing school leaders today.

Monongalia County Schools has been recognized as the top-ranked school district in West Virginia and consistently stands among the highest-performing districts in the country — a reflection of the leadership and standards its administrators bring to work every day.

Drawing on concepts from his book *Forge Ahead*, the discussion centered on contributing at your best level, refusing to be a victim of circumstance, and engaging the critic rather than avoiding them. School administrators are community leaders inside and outside the building — and setting high expectations and leading by example matter most at a time when the fear of being publicly wrong can make people hesitant to step forward.

Special thanks to Superintendent Dr. Eddie Campbell and Deputy Superintendent Ms. Donna Talerico for the invitation and for their leadership of a district that sets the standard in West Virginia.
