When you find something that brings pure joy pursue it! Here is to overcoming fear, self doubt, and building confidence. Here’s to the untold stories, my story:

For ten years I’ve been a photographer, for six I have been dabbling with film, for the last three, I have learned, invested, and committed myself to film, for my future, it is film and this is why.

Only a few people know this story and today I am sharing it with the world. I believe in transparency, honestly, and vulnerability because it is how we connect with one another.
For most of my life I have battled with an all consuming anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder. I do not have to have everything lined up perfectly or disinfected. My life is riddled with fear. Fear that attacks the things I love the most. Ocd is brutal and it goes after our values.

Without going into too much detail, I will connect the dots to share why film photography has released me from my mental prison. Here’s how the OCD brain works, and OCD brain gets stuck on a thought, typically a fear producing thought (I.e. I will accidentally overwrite a memory card and loose an entire wedding) the OCD brain tries to get rid of that “unwanted” thought by performing a compulsion (I.e. pressing the shutter 100x or until that “unwanted” thought goes away.
Over the decade I have destroyed shutters, gone through cameras, computers, hard drives, and money through the excess of images.
Here is where film comes into play and why is has saved my love for photography. Film is limited, it is not exponential like digital, there are boundaries, each roll only holds 16-36 images which means my OCD brain cannot run the show. By rewriting the pathways in my brain, I have regained control and my love for photography. My future is film!
