Success nugget... New York | Women’s Leadership Committee Meeting!

Some moments remind you exactly why you do the work you do. Standing in a room filled with accomplished, driven women leaders in New York, I had the privilege of speaking at the Women’s Leadership Committee hosted by The Executive Women’s Leadership Forum, a dynamic organization aligned with my mission at the Executive Women’s Success Institute.

As I stood before this powerful group, sharing the Formula for Success (F.O.C.U.S.), the energy in the room was undeniable. These women weren’t just listening, they were leaning in, taking notes, and preparing to elevate not only their own leadership, but the impact they have on others.

I reminded them of something we all need to hear, no matter how far we’ve come:

Embrace the journey, with every high and every challenge. True focus isn’t only about reaching the destination, it’s about who you become in the process. Growth is happening, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

My advice to this remarkable group was clear and intentional:

Lead with clarity – When your vision is clear, your decisions become stronger, and your influence expands.

Stay committed to your course – Distractions will come, but discipline is what separates movement from momentum.

As leaders and committee members, they carry a responsibility that goes beyond titles. They are shaping environments, opening doors, and setting standards for the women coming behind them.

And what I saw in that room was powerful…
Women who are ready.
Women who are focused.
Women who are rising.

Because when women lead with purpose, everyone wins.

CELEBRATING WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH!

Success nugget... Throughout history, women have risen with courage, strength, and unwavering determination, often in the face of obstacles that seemed impossible to overcome. Because of trailblazers like Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Florence “Flo-Jo” Griffith Joyner, and Michelle Obama, to name a few, doors have opened, voices have been amplified, and generations of women have been empowered to dream bigger, lead boldly, and stand confidently in their purpose.

These extraordinary women remind us that progress is built on perseverance. Their sacrifices, achievements, and leadership have paved the way for women everywhere to show up, speak up, and rise up. Today, we honor not only their legacy but also the countless women who continue to break barriers, inspire change, and uplift others every single day.

As former First Lady Michelle Obama once said: “There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.”

Scripture also reminds us of the strength and dignity women carry: "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” (Proverbs 31:25)

During Women’s History Month, let us celebrate the women who came before us, support the women standing beside us, and inspire the young women who will follow. Each of us has a role to play in continuing this powerful legacy of leadership, resilience, and impact.

Tag a woman who inspires you, share her story, and take a moment today to encourage another woman to keep rising. When women support women, we don’t just make history, we shape the future.

International Women’s Day always brings a flood of praise, polished campaigns, and well-written captions about how much women matter.

Success nugget...Appreciating women publicly is easy.
Respecting women consistently is where the real work begins.

It shows in who gets heard in meetings without being interrupted.
It shows in who gets trusted with leadership before they are overproven.
It shows in who gets paid fairly, promoted fairly, and given room to grow without having to fight twice as hard for half the recognition.

A lot of women are carrying excellence, pressure, emotional labour, leadership, and responsibility all at once, yet many workplaces still reward confidence more easily in men and scrutinize the same trait more harshly in women.

So today, I’m not drawn to the polished celebration alone.

I’m thinking about the women who keep showing up in rooms that were not designed with them in mind.

The women whose ideas are borrowed before they are credited.
The women who lead teams, businesses, homes, and communities still have to prove that their ambition is valid.

International Women’s Day should push real reflection.

Are women being supported in a way that is visible in policy, pay, opportunity, leadership, and everyday respect?
Are we creating environments where women are free to lead fully, speak openly, and grow without being reduced to labels?

Celebration matters.
So does honesty.

The goal has never been to praise women for their resilience.
The goal is to build a world where they no longer have to be resilient just to be treated fairly.

Happy International Women’s Day to every woman making an impact, often with more weight on her shoulders than people see.

The more women who are successful in business, the better our world will be.

Success nugget... When women rise, communities strengthen, families thrive, and innovation accelerates. Most businesswomen don’t pursue success for status alone—we do it to create impact, to solve problems, to open doors, and yes, to change the world.

But no woman thrives alone.

In order for women to truly excel in business, we need ongoing guidance, meaningful support, and a powerful community that understands our unique challenges and ambitions. Success is not just about personal achievement—it’s about collective advancement. As Madeleine Albright famously said, “There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” Her words remind us that lifting each other up is not optional—it’s essential.

If you are building, leading, or scaling a business, here are three powerful ways to thrive and uplift others along the way:

1. Seek Mentorship—and Become a Mentor.
Every successful woman has benefited from guidance. Surround yourself with mentors who challenge and inspire you. At the same time, extend your hand to women who are just beginning their journey. Your experience, insight, and encouragement could be the catalyst that changes the trajectory of another woman’s life.

2. Invest in Continuous Growth.
The marketplace evolves, and so must we. Commit to ongoing learning—whether through professional development, leadership training, strategic coaching, or industry networks. Growth fuels confidence, and confident women lead boldly.

3. Build Strategic Community, Not Just Contacts.
Networking is important, but true community is transformational. Surround yourself with women who celebrate your wins, provide honest feedback, and collaborate instead of compete. Collective strength multiplies opportunities.

4. Use Your Platform to Advocate for Other Women.
Recommend women for leadership roles. Share their work. Promote their businesses. Collaboration creates expansion. When one woman rises, she creates space for many more.

The world needs more women in positions of influence, innovation, and authority. It needs your voice, your leadership, and your vision. Your success is not selfish—it is powerful. It sets an example. It creates access. It changes narratives.

Step fully into your ambition. Support other women boldly. Lead with courage and conviction.

I had a conversation yesterday that broke my heart a little.

Success nugget...A woman with 15 years of experience, leading a team of 12, told me she's "not ready" to apply for a VP role.

I asked her what she needed to feel ready.
"Maybe another year or two. I want to make sure I really know everything," she said.

Meanwhile, her male colleague with less experience just got the role. He didn’t know everything.

He learned on the job. And that’s the part nobody ever talks about.

Here’s the truth about career growth that women rarely hear:

Men get promoted on potential. Women get promoted on proof.

If you wait until you’ve proven you can do the next level job perfectly, someone else will already be in the seat. Meanwhile, you’re stuck watching opportunities pass by, convincing yourself that “maybe next year” you’ll be ready.

You don’t need another certification. You don’t need two more years. You don’t need to check every box on the job description before you apply.

Men apply when they’re 60% qualified. Women wait until they’re at 120%.

And the reality is this: most leaders don’t expect you to know everything on day one. They expect someone who is curious, capable, and willing to learn fast. That’s what success looks like on the job. It’s growth, not perfection.

So if you’re waiting to feel “ready,” ask yourself: what would happen if you stepped forward anyway?

What opportunities could open if you trusted your experience, your perspective, and your ability to grow while doing the work?

If you’re unsure where to start, I’m offering free 30-minute career clarity calls this week. Let’s talk about what’s really holding you back and how to move into the next role with confidence.

The seat is there. You don’t have to wait for “perfect.”

When women lead, they are seen as “bossy.” When men lead, they are “decisive.”

Success nugget...I have seen this happen too many times in meetings, projects, and boardrooms.

A woman takes charge and voices her opinion, and suddenly the room feels tense. People say she is “too direct,” “too emotional,” or “hard to work with.”

Then a man comes in, says the exact same thing, and somehow it sounds like leadership.

He is confident. Visionary. Commanding.

The double standard is subtle, but it runs deep.
Women are expected to be assertive but not too assertive.
Strong but not intimidating.
Ambitious but still likable.

It becomes a constant balancing act, one that drains energy and confidence.

Many women start questioning themselves:
“Did I come off too strong?”
“Should I have softened my tone?”
“Maybe I should have waited for someone else to say it.”

And that is where the problem lies.

When leadership is filtered through gendered expectations, women are forced to play smaller, not because they lack ability, but because they are tired of being misjudged for showing it.

We cannot keep telling women to “lean in” if the moment they do, they are labeled as “difficult.”

Real change begins when workplaces learn to recognize bias disguised as feedback.

Leadership is about making an impact, driving vision, and standing firm in your values; qualities that have no gender.

It is time we stop confusing confidence with aggression just because it comes from a woman.

P.S. Do you believe workplaces are truly ready to unlearn this, or are we still rewarding the same old leadership stereotypes?
