Chiltrix CX34 is compatible with heating, cooling, and domestic hot water, and can use any or all of these in the same installation. Also, Chiltrix can be used with radiant, as well as central ducted systems, or ductless room fan coil units, concealed ceiling units, a hot water tank, and any or all of these can be combined in the same installation.

Q3 2019 CX34 Technology Update
The past year has been a very busy time for our development team. Here’s some stuff that you may not know about (not listed in any particular order).

1. Onboard dynamic outdoor reset. This allows a user to make a custom reset curve using a Chiltrix-provided excel worksheet and then input the values into the CX34 controller. The result is the automatic optimization of loop supply temperature so that it is at its warmest on the coldest days, and runs at a more efficient temperature on milder days.

2. Optional CX34 WiFi Remote (also includes BACnet gateway). Monitor and control the CX34 from a web browser or iPhone/Android device and/or connect it to a BACnet building automation system. Also allows factory remote diagnostics. Special versions available for Metasys, LonWorks and more…

3. Onboard relay control (eliminates need for TSAT adapter). This allows an external controller or thermostat to switch the CX34 between heat/cool/off via customer provided relays.

4. On-board MOVs. Customers with dirty power were having board failures so we added some on-the-board transient voltage suppressors (1 ns reaction time) to help resolve this issue. We still suggest adding a standard surge suppressor.

5. New ultra-high spec 70-gallon stainless steel indirect tank. This tank is 304 stainless on the outside with 2205 stainless inside, huge 72’x1.25” 2205 convoluted coil (32 ft.^2) for fast recovery. It’s an absolutely gorgeous tank with astonishing performance.

6. Dual version V18-2. If you ever might need more than one of the awesome v18 dynamic variable backup heaters on the same CX34, now they can share a single controller. Save a few $$.

7. Concealed Ceiling Fan Coil Units with DC Inverter motors - these complement our line of DC inverter hydronic ducted air handlers. Not exactly new, but new for us & now on the menu.

DHW80 Indirect Hot Water Tank // This is the highest-spec hot water tank on the market, it's made from Duplex 2205 stainless steel, with corrosion resistance 6x better than 304L stainless and 4x better than 316L stainless. This Chiltrix designed and produced tank is made in our same factory where we make our buffer tanks and is designed to work with solar thermal, boilers, or of course with the Chiltrix ultra-efficient air to water heat pump which can make domestic hot water in addition to its record-setting cooling and heating functions.

Some impressive specs include a GIGANTIC 1.25" x 72' convoluted coil (also made from 2205 stainless) with over 32 ft^2 of surface area for fast heat transfer, with ports for backup element, anode, TPV, sensors, etc.

V18 DYNAMICALLY VARIABLE BACKUP HEATER

This unusual and patent-pending device provides automatic & integrated precision backup heat for our customers in very cold climates, for those days when a heat pump may not be able to keep up.

The V18 uses capacity and load information from the CX34 to understand any heating shortfall, and uses SSR technology to fire an inline resistance heating element at just the right power level to match any shortfall. Inline, but with no pressure drop.

AHRI IPLV CERTIFICATION: EER 23

Certified! The AHRI certification process took longer and cost more than expected, but it was worth the effort. The testing is complete and the AHRI certificate has been issued.

The Chiltrix CX34 exceeded its previously published efficiency numbers with an official AHRI IPLV rating of EER 23.02. Congratulations to the Chiltrix engineering team for their skill and hard work, and for the record-setting efficiency of the CX34!

Chiltrix CX34 Now Certified by the California Energy Commission - Title 21/24

The Chiltrix CX34 is now one of only a handful of air cooled heat pump chillers certified by the California Energy Commission. This unique patent-pending reverse cycle chiller provides heating, cooling, and hot water and is perfect for radiant heating, heating & cooling with fan coils, or a combo of both. NEW! UL 60335-2-40
As you would expect, Chiltrix products are fully certified for sale in USA, Canada, and other locations under UL 1995. What may be interesting is that the new Chiltrix CX34 is certified to the newest and toughest UL standard, UL 60335-2-40. This standard is a replacement for the current UL 1995. This new standard is optional for heat pumps at this time, but will fully replace the current standard over the next 2-5 years. The new standard 60335-2-40 requires far more rigorous testing requirements for HVAC equipment than the current standard UL 1995.

Like UL 1995, the new UL testing protocols assess fire and electrical safety. However, the newer 60335-2-40 standard adds a number of additional criteria including stability, durability, performance, and more. While not required to do so, Chiltrix decided to use the newer, tougher standard as a way to provide the highest possible level of assurance and validation for the CX34. The Chiltrix CX34 is also certified to the current Canadian standard CSA 22.2.

Chiltrix Lab Certified by the California Energy Commission

Under California Title 24, the CEC (California Energy Commission) requires that HVAC test labs be certified in order to provide official data. The Chiltrix test laboratory has obtained CEC certification and is now authorized to perform testing and provide certification according to the AHRI 550/590 test standard.

Chiltrix AHRI Certified Test Lab

Chiltrix has invested thousands of dollars in laboratory equipment upgrades which are now complete. The Chiltrix psychrometric testing lab is now certified to AHRI requirements, and official AHRI testing can now be performed in our lab (of course only in the presence of an AHRI engineer to serve as a witness).

Having our own certified lab will save much time and cost in both product development, and future certifications.

Psychrometric Controller With Dynamic Humidity Control

Chiltrix has officially released its new patent-pending Psychrologix™ controller. The new controller automates many chiller functions that are typically controlled manually, and in addition, includes the all-new DHC (Dynamic Humidity Control) function. The DHC function allows the chiller to perform “hyper-dehumidification” at times when humidity is high, by dropping the coil temperature to a point below the industry-standard coil temperature. When humidity has been corrected, dehumidification is reduced or stopped to save energy.

This is important because humidity is event driven, in other words, indoor humidity increase doesn’t simply happen by itself. For example, humidity occurs in an indoor space when someone takes a hot shower, or when an exterior door opening allows humid air to enter. Once the system has removed this humidity, dehumidification can be slowed or stopped by the DHC controller until the next humidity event occurs.

A regular air conditioner cannot control this, a standard A/C uses dehumidification energy regardless of whether or not dehumidification is needed. With Chiltrix Dynamic Humidity Control, energy needed for dehumidification is consumed only when dehumidification is needed. When dehumidification is not needed, the Chiltrix system efficiency can increase up to an additional 40-50% above its already-high AHRI 550/590 efficiency ratings.
