The crew from Skyline Tinting is here installing safety film on every first-floor window!

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who supported our and GivingTuesday fundraisers, this important safety project is now becoming a reality. The film helps strengthen the glass and provides valuable extra protection in an emergency.

Cavalier Ford's new Prep Center in Chesapeake was heating up fast, so Cavalier Auto Group called Skyline Tinting to get it under control.

We installed our commercial 5% dual reflective solar control film on the building's windows to cut heat and glare, making the space cooler and far more comfortable to work in — while keeping the daytime view out. In the service department, we finished a manager's office with a white frost privacy film for a clean, frosted-glass look and daytime privacy.

"Isn't thicker film always stronger?" It's the #1 question we hear from churches, schools, and business owners shopping for security window film — and the answer surprises people.

When someone's trying to break in, the film fails by tearing, not by being too thin. That's why a thinner 8-mil 3M Ultra S800 — built from dozens of cross-woven micro-layers — can hold a window longer than a film nearly twice as thick. Pair it with a proper frame attachment and you've got a real barrier that still looks like ordinary glass.

Every August we get the same call: someone in Virginia Beach or Norfolk sees a storm forming in the Atlantic, looks at a wall of glass facing the water, and asks if we can put something on it so it doesn't end up in their living room.

The honest answer is more complicated than most window film companies will tell you — so we wrote the straight version.

Security film does something real: when glass breaks in a storm, it holds the fragments together in one sheet instead of letting them fly inward. That's a documented safety benefit, and it's why we install it in schools. But film on glass alone is NOT impact-rated glass, and the frame-attachment systems that actually keep a pane in the opening work best on heavy commercial framing — not on typical lightweight residential windows.

Anyone who tells you a piece of film makes your house hurricane proof is selling you something. We'd rather tell you the truth now than have you find out during a Category 2.

Proud to have taken care of the folks who take care of us. 🚒

We recently installed ASWF Twilight 10 Solar Control Film on the break room windows at Chesapeake Fire Station 7. The goal: kill the harsh morning glare and give the crew a bit of privacy during their downtime.

Twilight 10 is one of the more unique films in the industry. It gives glass a dark, non-reflective, modern finish while cutting glare by 89% and blocking 99.9% of UV rays. What really sets it apart is its very low solar heat absorption — which made it the right call for this station's laminated safety glass, letting us go dark and block glare without the risk of thermal cracking.

We just wrapped a decorative privacy install for the Kempsville Public Library here in Virginia Beach. Their computer room was fully exposed through large windows, so patrons and staff had zero visual separation from the adjacent seating area.

Our fix: Solyx Reeded Glass film applied to the lower 75% of the glass. The vertical "reeded" texture mimics real architectural fluted glass — it softens the view and gives mild visual privacy at seated eye level, while the clear upper band keeps the room feeling open, bright, and easy to supervise.

It's a clean, modern look that fits a public space perfectly, with none of the cost or disruption of replacing the glass itself.
