The dove, often depicted on church ceilings such as this one, is a powerful symbol of the Holy Spirit in Catholic tradition. Positioned above the congregation, it serves as a reminder of God's presence, guidance, and the divine inspiration that fill sacred spaces during worship.

St. Cecilia Church sits in the center of the Back Bay section of Boston. Our project at this historic church included uncovering, documenting, preserving and restoring the decorative finishes throughout the space. Pictured is the final reinstated original designs, all restored using the historic mode, method, style & design that we learned through our extensive investigative studies.

Gilding is a timeless technique used to highlight and enhance decorative architectural details. The luminous quality of metal leaf draws attention to ornamental moldings, carvings, and ceilings, like the one pictured at the Cathedral of St. Patrick, adding depth, elegance, and a sense of grandeur to historic spaces.

The 2026 Palladio Award Winners included the New Design work done for the Virginia General Assembly Building by Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA), for which Canning completed the Sky Mural. Along with the dismantling and reconstruction of the stained glass laylight in the Missouri Capitol, done by STRATA Architecture + Preservation, where Canning also completed the decorative painting restoration around the laylight. It's great to have these buildings and the teams involved being recognized by Traditional Building. The 2026 Palladio Award winners will be formally recognized at a special awards dinner tomorrow June 16, in Cape May, New Jersey, held in conjunction with the Traditional Building Conference Series, which we are a sponsor of, and we will be at the conference exhibiting as well as attending the Awards dinner. Hope to see you there.
