As we get closer to year-end, I am seeing a lot of business owners who are trying to get their books caught up. 📚

If you’re cleaning up your own books before handing them off to your CPA or tax pro, here are 3 things I find in almost every catch-up file that might help you get started:

1️⃣ Uncategorized transactions. That “Ask My Accountant” bucket grows FAST 😅
2️⃣ Duplicate entries. Bank feed + manual entry = counted twice.
3️⃣ Unreconciled accounts. If it’s not reconciled, the balance is just a guess.

And if you find you just don’t have the time to tackle it, or you’re tired and want it DONE so you can start fresh, reach out! I’m happy to take a look. 💚

I've been trying to make it to the Network-a-thon hosted by Office Supply Solutions for YEARS, and last night I finally did it! 🙌

I talked to SO many people who said it was their first time, or that they were "just getting back out there" after months (or more!) away. Same here!

It was a good reminder that stepping back for a season is normal, in networking AND in business. What matters is stepping back in. (Yes, that goes for your books too 👀)

Plus, I got to catch up with (one of my favorites) Rachael MacGregor with Restore Movement Physical Therapy and see a few other familiar faces!

Raise your hand if you've ever checked your bank balance and thought, "Yep, we're good!" 🙋‍♀️

Totally normal… but your bank balance only tells part of the story. Uncleared checks, unpaid bills and sneaky duplicates don't show up there, but they DO show up in your books.

That's why reconciling matters. 💚

Be honest: how often do you check your bank balance? Daily? Weekly? Only when you're scared to?

Fun fact: you're not the only one relying on your books 👀

Your CPA, your lender, payroll, your financial advisor… even an attorney sometimes. They all use your numbers to help you make big decisions.

So when your books are clean and current, everyone on your team can do their job better (and faster!). 💚

Pick one of these this week:
👍🏼 Reconcile your bank and credit cards through September
👍🏼 Clear out the "uncategorized" pile
👍🏼 Find any missing receipts while you still remember what they were

Extended individual (Form 1040) and C corp (Form 1120) returns are due today, October 15. Make sure you know which deadlines apply to you!
