As we told you last week and I’m sure everyone was anticipating….. today was our annual fire truck pump and Ground ladder testing as required by PEOSH and NFPA.
Now, For those who care to educate themself on it . A Fire Truck fire pump test evaluates a fire apparatus pump's capacity, pressure regulation, and mechanical reliability following NFPA standards. It requires a 20-minute 100% capacity test at 150 PSI, a 70% capacity test at 200 PSI, and a 50% capacity test at 250 PSI
Ground ladder testing follows guidelines under NFPA, requiring three main evaluations of all ground ladders:
-A comprehensive visual/physical inspection. Checking rungs, rails, heat sensor labels, pawls, and safety labels for cracks, wear, or damage.
-A horizontal bend test which measures structural deflection and permanent set under specified test loads to verify load-bearing capacity.
-A hardware load test which Stress-tests roof hooks, cable systems, and extension components to confirm mechanical integrity. Testing must occur at least annually, after suspected overloads, or following heat exposure.
Another item checked off the list of annual testing. Between these reports and preventative maintenance reports we can get a good gauge on needed repairs to keep our aging fleet of apparatus in tip top shape.
