PRESS RELEASE
PEOPLE IN NH SHOULD PREPARE NOW FOR TROPICAL STORM HENRI
CONCORD, N.H. – The New Hampshire Department of Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management advises all residents and visitors to be prepared for impacts from Tropical Storm Henri, which is expected to arrive in the state on Sunday morning.
Forecasts predict that Tropical Storm Henri will reach hurricane force before making landfall in New England.
NH Homeland Security and Emergency Management, in coordination with other state and local partners, is closely monitoring the storm. Tropical Storm Henri will impact much of New Hampshire and everyone should take time to prepare now. “Tropical storms and hurricanes are not just a threat to coastal communities. High winds, heavy rainfall, tornadoes and flooding can occur anywhere in New Hampshire.” said state Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director Jennifer Harper. “Waiting until Sunday to prepare for this storm is too late. Prepare now for potential flooding and power outages.”
Harper offers the following safety tips:
• Sign up for NH Alerts or download the NH Alerts mobile app to receive free emergency notifications including weather alerts from the National Weather Service.
• Listen to the radio or television for the latest storm information.
• Tie down or bring indoors any objects that might be blown around by winds.
• Keep rain gutters and downspouts clear of debris to reduce home flooding risks.
• Heed instructions from local emergency officials and know how to safely evacuate should you be told to do so.
• If a Flash Flood Warning is issued for your area, immediately seek higher ground.
• Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown.
These core steps are key to preparedness and keeping you and your family safe:
1. Stay informed by signing up for NH Alerts.
2. Make an emergency kit.
3. Have a family emergency plan.
4. Get involved in your community.
