Congratulations Chestnut Hill!
Grant Funding Provides New Ultra High Pressure Firefighting Capability for Chestnut Hill VFD
Chestnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department receives $39,570 grant from the Jefferson Health Care Foundation Fund, a fund of the East Tennessee Foundation
The Chestnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce the addition of a new Ultra High Pressure (UHP) firefighting skid unit to Rapid Response Unit 952.
The equipment was made possible through a $39,570 grant awarded in November 2025 by the Jefferson Health Care Foundation Fund, a fund of the East Tennessee Foundation. The grant funded the full $39,570 cost of the UHP firefighting unit.
For a rural volunteer fire department such as Chestnut Hill, the new equipment provides an important capability. Ultra High Pressure firefighting systems are compact and can provide rapid fire suppression while using considerably less water than conventional firefighting methods. The equipment is particularly useful in rural areas where water supplies may be limited and where a full-size fire engine may have difficulty reaching the incident.
Mounted in the rear of Rapid Response Unit 952, the UHP system allows CHVFD members to bring firefighting capability into areas that may be difficult or impossible for a conventional fire apparatus to access.
Already Making a Difference
The new unit isn't simply equipment sitting at the fire station — it has already been put to work protecting our community.
One of its first responses was a grass fire in a residential yard, where the rapid-response truck and UHP system could be quickly positioned and placed into operation.
The unit has also been used at a boat/fuel fire in an area where a standard fire engine could not reach the fire. Incidents such as this demonstrate exactly why a smaller, mobile firefighting system is such a valuable resource for our department and the community we serve.
The UHP system's combination of portability, reach and reduced water usage gives our firefighters another tool for responding to wildland, vehicle and other fires, particularly in difficult-to-access areas.
Thank You to Our Partners
The Chestnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department gratefully acknowledges the Jefferson Health Care Foundation Fund, a fund of the East Tennessee Foundation, for making this project possible.
Their investment has provided our volunteer firefighters with equipment that will serve the Chestnut Hill community for years to come.
We would also like to extend our appreciation to Matt Carpenter of K3 Fire for his assistance with the Ultra High Pressure firefighting system and this project.
