It’s not often you see a plane like this. As parts become harder to find and more expensive, decisions must be made. Economically too expensive to repair, but still has value. So we go out on the owners request and collect as many parts as we can that can be used to keep others flying. Then we scrap the remainder. This one happened to be in Hawaii. Corrosion is a constant problem there and caused this one to become unairworthy.

This Friday we are replacing a broken connector on a Nav Indicator. The pilot said he has a constant Glideslope flag. We troubleshot it with our nav test set and verified the issue. Start simple, check connections and pins. Found a broken pin on an older style connector. So we soldered in a new one and got him back in the air.

We were contracted to disassemble and recover this Piper Aztec to be scrapped. The owner wanted various parts salvaged to assist in keeping the rest of their fleet flying. Jobs like this require various logistical hurdles such as tools off site, hangar access, telehandler rental, drive times and lodging. We brought this back to our Cheyenne facility to begin the final stages of teardown. We will then carefully dismantle it all while 3D scanning every rib and longeron to reverse engineer. Parts are getting more scarce and we feel we can help as manufacturers are dropping support for older models.

Once again, Carter’s and SMT Aero Structures traveled to Suriname, South America for some international work. Particle Separator install on the other BK-117 and some avionics work on the Robinson R44. As usual our customer is extremely pleased with the support and is actively talking about more upgrades to his fleet avionics.
