Last month Ohio regulators unanimously approved 149 MW of solar plus 149 MW of battery storage on reclaimed coal-mine land — and not a single party opposed it (Canary Media, Sept 10). A 2025 state law now lets 70,000+ acres of former mine land and brownfields be fast-tracked for solar.

Before federal manufacturing credits kicked in, America could assemble about 8 GW of solar panels a year. As of June 2026 it's 69.9 GW — a jump of more than 750% (SEIA). And the deeper parts of the supply chain are catching up: PV Tech Research counts 55.9 GW of U.S. solar CELL capacity under construction right now.

🧾 Did the federal solar tax credit really disappear in 2026? Not the way you've heard.

Yes — the 30% credit for homeowners who buy their system outright (Section 25D) ended December 31, 2025. But one door is still open: with a solar lease or PPA, the company that owns the panels claims the 30% commercial credit (48E) and passes the savings to you through a lower rate — on systems placed in service through December 31, 2027.

The savings didn't vanish. The path changed. If you've been on the fence, this is your window.

Reality: that's starting to change. In Pennsylvania, PPL has proposed replacing 1:1 retail net metering — worth about 18–21¢/kWh — with wholesale credits closer to 4–8¢. That's a 60–80% cut, and other utilities are watching to make the same move. 🔌

📈 The U.S. solar market actually cooled last quarter. Home solar did the opposite.

The newest Solar Market Insight report (SEIA / Wood Mackenzie, Q2 2026) shows residential installs grew 6% year over year — even as the overall market dipped. Translation: while the headlines wobble, homeowners kept locking in lower, more predictable power bills. The U.S. has now passed roughly 6 million solar installations.
