America relies on Wyoming Coal!

U.S. coal production in 2025 remains heavily concentrated in just a handful of states, with Wyoming continuing to dominate the industry by a massive margin.

The state produced roughly 233 million short tons of coal, accounting for more than half of America’s total coal output. Most of Wyoming’s production comes from the Powder River Basin, one of the largest coal mining regions on Earth.

West Virginia ranked second with 75.3 million short tons, driven largely by metallurgical coal used in global steelmaking. Kentucky followed with 51.7 million short tons, while Pennsylvania produced 40.3 million short tons thanks to its long-established Appalachian mining sector.

Illinois rounded out the top five with 17.5 million short tons, supported by the Illinois Basin’s high-sulfur coal reserves.

Combined, these five states produced the overwhelming majority of U.S. coal in 2025, highlighting how concentrated America’s coal industry has become despite ongoing shifts toward alternative energy sources.

America needs Wyoming Coal!

Coal plant retirements are slowing. In 2025, just 2.6 GW retired, the lowest since 2010, as operators delayed or canceled closures amid rising electricity demand and reliability concerns. Coal remains the backbone of today’s grid. Read more here: https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=67427

The Wyoming Mining Association is saddened to learn of the passing of Glenn Catchpole. Glenn was a pioneer and stalwart in the Wyoming uranium mining industry and was a strong supporter of WMA and Wyoming mining. WMA sends our deepest condolences to Glenn’s family. He will be missed.

Tonight, humans go back to the Moon. 🌙🚀

NASA's Artemis II launches TODAY from Kennedy Space Center — the first crewed mission beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972. Four astronauts will make a 10-day journey around the Moon and back, making history every mile of the way.

We're incredibly proud to share that L&H Industrial has played a direct role in making this mission possible.

Our team — right here in Gillette, Wyoming — was trusted by NASA for two critical projects at Kennedy Space Center:

**1. Upgrading the Crawler-Transporter 2**
This is the massive machine that carries the rocket from the assembly building to the launch pad. L&H manufactured over 1,300 precision components and rebuilt all 16 gearboxes to increase its payload by 6 million pounds. Those parts are underneath tonight's rocket right now.

**2. Manufacturing the Flame Deflector Cladding Plates for Pad 39B**
When Artemis I's launch damaged the flame deflector system, NASA called on L&H to manufacture stronger, more durable cladding plates to protect the pad at liftoff. Tonight, that structure takes on nearly 9 million pounds of thrust.

From a machine shop in Wyoming to a launch pad in Florida — we are proud that the quality and character of our people helped pave the way for one of the greatest moments in space exploration history.

**Tune in tonight and watch history happen.**
📺 Watch live starting at 12:50 p.m. EDT: https://go.nasa.gov/4bZGjm1
🚀 Liftoff no earlier than 6:24 p.m. EDT

America needs Wyoming coal!

Coal remains a cornerstone of U.S. energy security as electricity demand rises. As Peabody Energy CEO James Grech put it, coal is “quite simply, America’s largest energy asset”, offering scale, reliability and long-term value that will remain central to the nation’s energy mix for decades.
