Community is at the core of Joy-Raising's purpose and success. AND community is how we find and amplify hope and possibility. I'm so thrilled to have been in community over the last few days with participants at the Administrator's of Color Conference at Francis W. Parker School in Chicago. This morning we closed the conference with a brunch sponsored by Joy-Raising that featured a conversation with my friend Amanda Williams, architect, visual artist, MacArthur Foundation "Genius" Award recipient and independent school alumna and current parent. She has many many accomplishments and the impact of her work will be felt and seen for generations. I'm Amanda's self appointed biggest fan and always feel completely in awe when I get to spend time with her. This morning I got to do that in community with educators who do the work each day pouring into students and making our world better than they found it.
I'm grateful for the chance to sponsor the conference alongside fellow entrepreneurs Warren Isaak Reid, founder of NEMNET, Rodney Glasgow, Ed.D., founder of The Glasgow Group and Strategenius. Each of these organizations inspired me to pursue my dream of Joy-Raising and it feels surreal to now stand among them.
I loved having my communities collide as I had the chance to be with fellow University of Chicago Laboratory Schools alumnae Heather Duncan, MEd, NBCT Amanda Williams and Priyanka Rupani, who led the conference which is the vision of the legendary Ruth Jurgensen.
And finally, the women of Excelle: A Women's Leadership Collective came out in force. We're a tight bunch so it's always wonderful to be together- until again Xiomara Hall, Marcy Sosa, Priyanka Rupani and Naté Hall.
Gather in community. Often and with purpose. Especially if you can do so with
