This delicate Renaissance print arrived at our studio with foxing, acid burn, and darkening from previous framing. Using museum-quality techniques and archival materials, the print was cleaned, stabilized, and then archivally matted.

A recent project from our studio: the museum-quality framing of Guitare et partition sur guéridon, a pochoir by Pablo Picasso.

Works on paper require a careful balance between preservation and presentation. For this piece, we focused on long-term protection using archival materials, while designing a frame that supports the composition without distracting from it.

Every decision, from the UV filtering glazing, to proportion, reversible mounting, and the profile design, was made to ensure the artwork is both visually resolved and responsibly preserved.

Before & After: Gilded Age Frame Conservation

This before-and-after detail highlights the conservation treatment of a Gilded Age gilded frame, focusing on the repair of a cartouche that was partially missing and previously poorly restored.

Treatment included the removal of prior inappropriate repairs, the casting of replacement elements based on the original ornamentation, and subsequent gilding and patination to achieve visual continuity with the surrounding surfaces.
