It was a 3 hour tour…

But fortunately for us we made it back in one piece! Thank you Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA) for another memorable cruise!🚢

What originally started as the Developer’s cruise years ago is now known as the Scholarship cruise where every dollar raised will be used to pay for future construction and engineering students.

What a great way to enjoy the last days of summer with some of the finest in the construction industry.

Great job by the HACIA team to bring this event to life Cintron Neida, Mercedes Esparza, Cindy Patino, Alma Tello, Marisabel Pozo Montalvo, MUPP and of course their fearless leader Jacqueline Fuentes.

Great times with my fellow Executive Latino Council co-founder Ulises Ruelas and so many other business owners that I’ve seen grown throughout the years.

No matter what the industry throws at us let’s keep moving ahead and sailing high!

Thank you 🙏🏼 to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for the invitation to speak at the 2nd Annual Latin@ Economic Summit!

It was an honor to share the stage with Edith De La Cruz, Andrea Vallejo and our amazing moderator Ericka White to speak on Building & Sustaining a Business Network.

For those that were unable to attend I’d like to share my 10 Networking Golden tips that have served me well in my career:

1.) Networking is a soft skill that takes time to develop. Whether you’re a natural introvert or extrovert it takes practice and hours to become comfortable at networking with others.

2.) Networking is about building trust and credibility which takes time. If you find yourself in a room where you don’t know anyone start developing one relationship at a time. Over the course of months your connections will increase until one day you know everyone in the room.

3.) Be genuinely interested in the other person and trying to help them. If your approach is to find out how to only benefit yourself that feeling will resonate not leading to meaningful connections.

4.) Develop win-win-win scenarios and partnerships. Identity how you can help others by making great introductions or letting them know of opportunities which you may be able to help them with.

5.) Be strategic about who you’re trying to meet and utilizing your time wisely. Identity who will be at the events beforehand so you know who you will be looking to speak to and ask others you know for those introductions.

6.) Have fun at networking by turning it into a personal challenge. Set a small goal to collect 5 business cards or schedule 3 business meetings at each event you attend.

7.) Utilize your digital social brand to enhance the networking events you attend. Highlight those that you’ve met or the events you attended. That way you can connect with people that attended the event and those that show support of your posts.

8.) Eliminate the fear of networking by reminding yourself that everyone at a networking event is there to connect and will be open to conversations. Remind yourself that you are there to help.

9.) Take advantage of the many networking opportunities provided by organizations such as the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA), Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Little Village Chamber of Commerce - La Camara de Comercio de La Villita, Angeles Investors and ask how you can become more involved with their organizations.

10.) As the saying goes the fortune is in the follow up. The first 24-48 hours after an event are crucial to reach out to those new connections and start to establish a relationship.

Thank you to my fellow Executive Latino Council members Ulises Ruelas, Ivan Berber, Mayra Khan, Enrique Lopez and ELC champion Robert Ibarra for coming out and showing your support!

Until next year and keep building those connections!
