Join me and friends as we kick off National Diaper Needs Awareness Week right here on Chicago’s West Side!

As a proud Senate sponsor of Illinois’ Birth Equity Initiative, I was honored to carry Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton’s Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton vision in the Senate. I am grateful to Governor Pritzker Governor JB Pritzker and so many advocates and voices in the birth justice space who helped make this legislation law. This historic initiative included a $1 million investment in a diaper equity pilot program serving families across Illinois, because diapers are a basic necessity and every family deserves access to the resources they need to thrive.

I am also grateful to Share Our Spare Share Our Spare for their partnership and commitment to providing these essential resources to our new moms, babies and families.

So grateful to our partners, including 24th Ward Alderwoman Monique Scott, 37th Ward Alderman Emma Mitts, Chicago Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin, and Mt Sinai for coming together to support our mothers, babies and caretakers.

From learning about community development and exploring North Lawndale to canvassing, attending community events, visiting City Hall, building professional skills, and making new memories along the way—you all made this summer one to remember.

We appreciate your hard work, positive energy, and willingness to learn and grow. We hope you take everything you experienced this summer with you into whatever comes next.

Our End of Summer Kick Back was postponed on Saturday due to the weather, but we're excited to announce that we're back on this Friday, August 7, from 5:00–8:00 PM!

Join Lawndale Christian Development Corporation at 16th & Lawndale (3700 W. 16th Street) for an evening of fun, community, and connection.

Come enjoy:

Our interns had an unforgettable day at Chicago City Hall! 🏛️
They had the opportunity to sit in on a City Council meeting,meet local alderman’s, learn more about local government in action, and experience firsthand how decisions are made that impact our communities. They even had a chance to meet Mayor Brandon Johnson.
