A chamber of commerce is a nonprofit membership organization with the mission to provide support and resources for local businesses. Whether you are an employee of an area business, a small business owner, a solo professional, or a resident, your area chamber of commerce can be an excellent source of community connection and support services!

A few of my favorite organizations in Chicago are Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, Rogers Park Business Alliance, Edgewater Chamber of Commerce, Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce , Uptown Chamber of Commerce, and Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce!

It's so easy to jump right into "the next thing" whether that's starting our workday right when we wake up or trying to relax immediately after our workday ends. What can help ease these transitions is being mindful about how we move into and out of work mode. Try listening to music or a podcast on your commute or going for a walk after working from home all day. Being intentional about our transition activities can help us move through our days more easily.

Many of us see a fluctuation in our work, having times that are busier and other times that are slower. The slower times are a great chance to tackle tasks that are harder to do when it's more hectic. Some ideas are:

• Clean up your inbox - Unsubscribe to nuisance emails and delete or file old messages
• Refresh your website - Is the information still accurate? Can you add updated pictures?
• Special projects - Is there a project you've been wanting to finish (or start!) like a creating a webinar or a product you've been wanting to develop?

If this feels overwhelming visit my website and find a time for us to chat!

Now that we're into July, it's a great time to conduct a six-month review of 2024. What's working well? What would you like to improve upon? Are there goals you want to make sure you accomplish before 2025? It's not too late to start working towards them!

Did you know that humans' attention spans are actually shrinking? Researchers have found that from 2000 to 2015 our attention span has actually decreased by 25%. The average attention span is now 8.25 seconds.

This shrinking focus definitely can impact our work. I've found that using the time block method helps me to reduce distraction and actually get some things done. Time blocking simply means setting aside time in your schedule for uninterrupted work. Pick one task or group of tasks to focus on and reduce all other distractions as much as possible. It's easier said than done but starting with a time block as little as 15 minutes can start to have an impact!

Staying on top of our emails can feel like a herculean task. Setting up inbox rules and filters can help make it a little easier! Inbox rules or inbox filters are essentially the same and allow you to automatically perform actions on incoming emails like mark them as read, apply labels, or sort them into folders. Doing this is a one-and-done task and can help save you time while keeping your inbox clear of clutter.

If this feels overwhelming, click the link in my bio to visit my website and find a time for us to chat. I can help you improve your efficiency by assisting you in setting these up!

“Stephanie was able to help me with several components of my business while I was working out of state. I was impressed with her attention to detail, expert knowledge, patience, and thorough communication from start to finish. This made the process much easier than if I had tried to do it on my own. I highly recommend Swell Virtual Assistance!” - Jo Eakins, Swell Client

When I'm feeling overwhelmed by my to do list, I often use the "brain dump" method.

Step 1: Start with a blank sheet of paper (or blank document or phone note).
Step 2: Write down every to-do item you can think of. Don't worry about the order, just get it all down.
Step 3: Go back through the list you just created a prioritize each item as a 1, 2, or 3. Priority 1 items need to get done first followed by Priority 2 items. Priority 3 items are non-urgent and can be done anytime or once everything under Priorities 1 and 2 are complete.

If this still feels daunting, please visit my website www.swellvirtualassistance.com and find a time for us to chat! I can help you improve your efficiency by assisting you in prioritizing and delegating tasks.

As small businesses, online reviews are incredibly helpful in improving our digital performance. If you're anything like me, maybe the positive reviews aren't just naturally flowing in. But have you ASKED for reviews? I realized I wasn't asking my clients to give an online review or testimonial and so they weren't. As soon as I asked, I had two new 5-star reviews on Google within days! When you know clients are happy with your work, I recommend asking them to share their experience. If you get a less than stellar review it is also an opportunity to learn and grow.
