Hot off the virtual presses, check out this year's Water Quality Report!

http://chicagoccr.org/

It contains all the components detected during Chicago's drinking water testing for 2021. We sample the drinking water for more than what's in this report, but if you're looking for a summary of which tests actually had a result above detection limits, this is the one to read.

If you want to see a more detailed report, check out our quarterly Chemical Comprehensive Report (https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/water/supp_info/water_quality_resultsandreports.html).

Want another way to get a water meter? Introducing the new and improved free Equity Lead Service Line Replacement (E-LSLR) Program!
1. We have made it easier to qualify, now it’s income based only
2. The number of documents required has been reduced
3. The income limit was increased

Apply today! Visit the online portal at https://www.leadsafechicago.org/lead-service-line-replacement

Eligibility criteria:
1. Live in a home you own
2. Have a household income below 80% of the area median income ($83,350 for a family of 4). For different family sizes, click here: https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/doh/provdrs/renters/svcs/ami_chart.html

That’s it!

You might be familiar with the City’s Roofs and Porches program or the Utility Billing Relief program. The E-LSLR program has similar requirements.

What is a service line?
A service line is the pipe that brings water from the water main in the street to inside the home. This pipe is often made from lead for single-family homes and 2-flats built before 1986. The E-LSLR program provides a free lead service line replacement that includes both the City-owned and homeowner-owned portions of the lead service line. In addition, the E-LSLR program includes the installation of a free water meter which could save you money on your water bills. The value of this free replacement is an estimated $15,000 - $30,000 investment on your property!

What if I don’t qualify?
The City also offers a Homeowner-Initiated LSLR program that waives permit fees for homeowners who want to hire a contractor and remove their existing lead service line. This program waives up to $3,100 in permit fees! More information can be found at https://www.leadsafechicago.org.

Would you like a $50 gift card? You’re in luck! The City of Chicago Department of Water Management is in need of volunteers for a Water Quality Study. Eligible volunteers must reside in a single family or 2-flat home within the City of Chicago and be registered to have a meter installed as part of MeterSave. Water samples will be taken before and after the installation of the meter, so the meter installation appointment must be at least 2-4 weeks away to allow time to complete “before” testing. Register for the Water Quality Study today at http://chicagowatertesting.org or by calling 312-742-2406 M-F 8am - 4pm (you will need your account number). Click on the link for more details.

We're proud to note that Chicago is #3 on this list (although we still
think we're #1)!

In Louisville, Kentucky, sand and gravel filtration and hundreds of daily tests ensure that even water from the not-so-untouched Ohio River flows from taps sweet and clean.
