HURRICANE AWARENESS:

Here in the United States, we are entering "Hurricane Season." This is the time to "Prepare" and be "Ready" not only for hurricanes, but for tropical depressions and storms.

What is a Hurricane?
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, hurricanes are defined as tropical cyclones that forms over tropical or subtropical waters. Also, when maximum sustained winds reaches 74mph or greater they can be c classified as hurricanes.

What is the difference between a "Hurricane Watch" and a "Hurricane Warning?"

A "Hurricane Warch" is issued when wind speeds are 74mph or higher that poses a threat within 48 hours.

A "Hurricane Warning" is issued when wind speeds are 74mph or higher within 36 hours or less.

Today, is the 47th anniversary (May 25, 1979) of the crash of American Airlines Flight 191. The crash took place shortly after take-off when the left-wing engine separated from the wing. This incident claimed all 271 souls on board and including 2 people on the ground. The flight was enroute from Chicago, Illinois (ORD) to Los Angeles, California (LAX).

A memorial has been built to remember the victims. This memorial is located in Lake Park in Des Plaines, Illinois. The memorial is a brick wall featuring individual interlocking bricks engraved with all the 273 names.
