*** PREPAREDNESS/AWARENESS TIPS ***
SMALL BUSINESS HAZARD ASSESSMENT

What exactly is a hazard assessment? A hazard assessment is an assessment (or a list) of the potential hazards that can affect your business. For example: fires, train derailments, tornadoes, chemical spills, hazardous materials, earthquakes, or severe weather.

Then you take your list of hazards and develop a Preparedness/Action Plan for each of those hazards.

*** HISTORICAL INCIDENT ***
AVIATION

Back on September 2, 1998, Swiss Airlines Flight 111 crashed into the ocean due to fire in the air conditioner unit that caused the crew to lose control of the aircraft. The aircraft crashed into the Atlantic Ocean Southwest of Halifax Stanfield International Airport. The flight originated from J.F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, New York and enroute to Geneva Airport, Geneva, Switzerland. The aircraft was a MD-11.

This incident claimed the lives of 229 souls- 215 passenger’s/14 crew.

A memorial has been erected to remember the victims that perished on that day. The memorial is located in Peggy’s Cove in Nove Scotia, Canada. At the memorial there is a passage that reads: “In grateful recognition of all those who worked timelessly to provide assistance in the recovery operations and comfort to the families and their friends during a time of distress, in memory of the 229 men women and children aboard Swiss Air Flight 111 who perished off these shores September 2, 1998.

*** SPECIAL RECOGNITION ***

Back on August 25, 2026, we lost a great legend. That legend was Dolly Parton. Not only she was one of the greatest singers on earth, but she was also an actress, entertainer, and an entrepreneur. She was a very charitable person as well, especially when it came to disasters. Here is a list of some of the donations she gave out:
* 2024 Hurricane Helene recovery
* 2021 Tennessee floods
* 2016 Great Smoky Mountain wildfires

Below, is a photo of Dolly giving out a million donation to Hurricane Helene victims.

She will always be in our hearts! Her music will always be remembered forever. Most importantly she will be deeply missed by her fans. Love you, Dolly!! Thanks for everything you have done for the people around the world. Oh yeah, we are now seeing Tropical Storm "Dolly" developing out in the Atlantic.

The cause of the powerful torrents of floodwater that carved a devastating path through Nepal and Tibet — swallowing towns, roads and bridges — is not yet clear, but Nepal is a hotspot for climate disasters as the planet heats up. https://cnn.it/4zBVUDn

*** AVIATION SECURITY AWARENESS ***

Which United Airlines Airports Don’t Use the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)?

Did you know there are still many airports in the United States that don’t use TSA screeners? The ones that don’t employ the TSA use private security companies to screen passengers and baggage.

TSA screens an average of 2.5 million passengers daily at nearly 440 airports throughout the United States. Most passengers don’t really notice the difference between TSA and the private security companies, because the federal government still oversees the security standards.

The airports that don’t use TSA participate in the TSA’s screening partnership program. The program enforces the security measures and standards throughout the United States airport system, regardless of who handles the actual screening process.

TSA rules are still enforced by federal law; the only major difference is that private companies provide security personnel at the checkpoints. Contractors that are employed at airports must follow all TSA regulations.

Here is a list of airports that are in the TSA partnership program:
• Great Falls International Airport, Montana
• Glacier Park International Airport, Montana
• Yellowstone Airport, Montana
• Kansas City International Airport, Missouri
• Orlando International Airport, Florida
• San Francisco International Airport, California
• Sarasota- Bradenton International Airport, Florida
