Losing your job can hit your confidence hard, especially if you were terminated.

But before you let that experience follow you into your next opportunity, here’s what I want you to do.

1. Separate what happened from who you are.

Losing one job does not erase your skills, your experience, or everything you’ve accomplished.

2. Second, get clear on your story.

You don’t have to hide what happened, but you also don’t have to walk into your next interview carrying shame. Know how to explain the situation professionally, briefly, and confidently.

3. Focus on what you can control now.

Update your resume. Prepare for interviews. Start reconnecting with people in your network. And take your job search one step at a time.

And if you don’t know how to start, that’s where support can make a difference.

You may have lost the job, but you have not lost your ability to move forward.
