A Widow’s Savings Wiped Out by a Crypto Con
Clara Evans, a 58-year-old widow from Calgary, Canada, was still grieving her husband when a WhatsApp message offered a lifeline. The message, from a “crypto advisor” named Sophie, linked to CryptoHorizon, a platform promising 250% returns on altcoin investments. Clara, longing for financial security, saw it as a way to honor her husband’s dream of a comfortable retirement. With tears in her eyes, she invested $8,000, money from his life insurance. The platform’s dashboard glowed with “profits,” and Sophie’s encouraging messages felt like a friend’s embrace. Clara added $20,000 more, selling her late husband’s car. When she tried to withdraw funds for medical expenses, the platform demanded a $4,000 “verification fee.” She paid, only to find the site gone and Sophie’s messages unanswered. Clara’s grief deepened, her heart broken twice over. Proupshot’s December report highlighted thousands of similar scams, each one preying on vulnerable hearts like Clara’s.If a crypto scam has left you grieving, reach out for help at https://www.facebook.com/mccrayhack.
