If you are a DEI leader or advocate for DEI…

Inclusion isn’t exclusive.

Picking and choosing the ‘safe’ groups or your own group isn’t advocating for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. It’s hypocritical. And, it’s obvious.

I would recommend that you rethink your stance, label or title as a DEI Advocate, Leader, Champion if you can’t commit to real and true inclusion.

We are living through the most significant DEI case study of our lifetime…and, if you are still silent (I don’t mean with your girlfriends over wine) - I mean with your wallets, your voice, your network…if you are still silent, ask yourself why.

Debbie Downer Alert…2022 is over - thank you NEXT!!

Last year was a year of lessons - full of surprises and disappointments. It was not cool!

But, I am not going to dwell on those - there were a few highlights (named a DEI Influencer by Staffing Industry Analysts, speaking at some cool events, and meeting some amazing people/clients) …you will see your feed full of all the great things that other people accomplished - and I will always celebrate that for them…👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 …

But, as for me - let’s keep it real - starting a business and trying to hold people accountable makes for a stressful year - or two!

Here are a couple of takeaways:

☝🏼 Have expectations of yourself only - people will disappoint you - so don’t have any expectations of anyone but yourself - you can only control your own behaviors and know your own intentions - what others do is their business. Truth always wins…

✌🏼 Follow your own path and listen to your own inner voice. Sometimes, I feel like I have to please others - when I ignore my own thoughts, I end up disappointing myself…and get in my head too much! Basically, going against what I want or think - so listen to your head and heart and do what’s right for you!

On a positive note - I am really looking forward to 2023…it promises to be full of new chapters and adventures…

Happy New Year and may you find exactly what you want, need and hope for in 2023!!! 🎉

Much of my life, I was taught to be quiet, keep my head down, get good grades, and get a job – don’t rock the boat and ask for anything…just be grateful for what they give you.

Can you believe that I had the audacity to dream of a career?
Can you believe that I had the audacity to want a promotion?
Can you believe that I had the audacity to ask for equitable pay?
Can you believe that I had the audacity to … (fill in the blank)?

As a child of immigrants, I was taught to simply be thankful and not ask for anything more…

Over the last few days, I have watched documentaries on the impact of those teachings…and, I have watched fellow first-generation kids have the audacity to break the biases!

So, let’s have the audacity to believe in our worth and grow way beyond what our parents wanted for us!
