I am proud of my friend and client Mayor Billy McKinney of Zion for speaking out strongly in favor of protesters who are demanding change in our policing strategies, police training and our outdated laws. I haven't spoken much since the protests began but I believe strongly the time is now for action by our policymakers and leaders to enact and embrace reforms in policing and policies to help underserved communities that have suffered systematic racism and discrimination. IAPA Efforts Result in First Online
Re-Licensing in Illinois

The Illinois Academy of Physician Assistants wants to thank the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for listening to the concerns of PAs across Illinois and implementing electronic renewals for all PA licenses.

IDFPR government relations director Robert E. Dixon announced earlier this week that despite earlier concerns about not being ready on time, the Department is now accepting online license renewals. The deadline for license renewals is March 1, 2020 but the Illinois Academy of PAs urges all PAs to apply as soon as possible.

IAPA leaders -- including legislative committee co-chairman Jennifer Orozco, board member Kristine Healy, and lobbyists Dan Shomon and Corryn Bradley -- attended a meeting with IDFPR in Springfield on November 16 and warned about a renewal problem if electronic registration wasn’t possible.

If you have questions that you cannot get answered please contact lobbyist Dan Shomon at [email protected] or a member of the IAPA board. Obviously, IAPA members will be given the highest priority as we work through requests for assistance. The IDFPR toll-free number for questions is 1-800-560-6420.

SAVE THE DATE: PA lobby day set for Tuesday, February 18, 2020

The next IAPA Lobby is set for Tuesday, February 18. It’s important that we have a diverse group of PAs to come to Springfield to meet with legislators and government leaders. The schedule that day is that PAs must arrive in Springfield by 10:15 a.m. and the day will end by 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided and everyone is urged to wear lab coats, bring comfortable shoes and bring plenty of business cards. If you want to sign up, contact Corryn Bradley of the lobbying team at [email protected].

Thank you,

Dear Friends and Clients of Dan Shomon Inc.:

I am both sad and happy to report that Dan Shomon Inc. Director of Government Relations, Kristin Rubbelke, has accepted a new opportunity in the government relations world and will be moving to Bloomington, Illinois full-time. Kristin has done an amazing job and built an impeccable reputation for her hard work and tenacity during her three and a half years at Dan Shomon Inc. and we wish her well. Her last day will be September 30. Please wish her well by emailing her at [email protected]. She will be joining her new husband Russell in Bloomington and joining a Bloomington-based lobbying firm, Capitol Edge Consulting, so you are still likely to see her in Springfield!!!

We are also glad to report that Corryn Bradley will be the new Director of Government Relations at Dan Shomon Inc. Corryn, a graduate of the University of Minnesota, is moving back to the Midwest from her childhood home of California -- because let's face it, Chicago and Illinois are better than California and she misses our winters!!! We are very happy to have Corryn joining our team with her excellent organizational and communications skills. Corryn has a wide variety of experience in the corporate and advocacy world and also has a strong knowledge of the cannabis industry from her work in the dispensary business. Corryn starts officially on Monday, October 14 and you will be meeting her very soon. If you want to welcome you can email her at [email protected].
