It is an honor to be recognized by the Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council alongside such an inspiring group of leaders. This was an amazing opportunity as South Side Consulting (SSC) moves through to the semi-finals of the Young Entrepreneurs Pitch Competition!

Entrepreneurship is never a solo journey. I am deeply grateful for the practical teachings we received from Steve Hall on structuring cash flow, the unwavering support from the ChicagoMSDC team, and the powerful network of fellow founders we are building together here in Chicago. Five weeks of soil, sunshine, and deep community roots. 🌱✨

When we started this youth urban farming program, the goal was to teach our kids how to w**d, prep, and plant a garden. But as we got our hands dirty, we realized we were cultivating something so much bigger: a true community.

This journey took us far beyond our garden plots. Together, we:
🌿 Went on guided nature walks through Washington Park
🏛️ Dove into our history at the DuSable Library
🌺 Explored the stunning landscapes of the Chicago Botanic Garden
🎒 Celebrated the back-to-school season with Alderwoman Jeanette Taylor of the 20th Ward, sending our kids off empowered and ready to lead!

To watch these young people take ownership of their land and their learning has been nothing short of inspiring.

None of this would have been possible without the unbelievable generosity of the Comer Family Foundation. Thank you for sponsoring this wonderful program and for believing in the limitless potential of our youth.

Thrilled to share some exciting news—South Side Consulting officially made it to the semi-finals of the YEP pitch competition! 🎉

While the room had its share of lions, hawks, and elephants, our team chose a slightly more unconventional creature to represent our business: the water barrel bug. 🌊🪲

Why? Because navigating unpredictable currents, staying resilient under pressure, and possessing the unique agility to glide through today’s business ecosystem is exactly what defines our approach.

A massive thank you to ChicagoMSDC and the entire team for putting on such a phenomenal, high-impact event. The insights shared and the incredible organizers made for an unforgettable experience.

More than anything, I am incredibly excited for the mentorship phase that comes with this next stage of the competition. Having the chance to learn from seasoned leaders to help us refine, scale, and keep gliding forward is an absolute game-changer.

Day 3 and the magic just keeps growing! ✨🌱

We were right back at it today, getting our hands dirty and exploring more of our beautiful community.

We took a walk over to the historic Fountain of Time in Washington Park and even stumbled upon a hidden little waterfall! 🌊

The highlight of the day? Some of our campers became foragers and scavenged some wild carrots growing in the park to carefully transplant back into their very own garden plots. 🥕🌿

But the absolute best part of being an educator is moments like this afternoon: we had to wrap up, and the kids were begging us to let them start planting seeds in their newly prepped beds. That kind of passion is what it’s all about!

🌱 BIG NEWS FOR SOUTH SIDE FAMILIES: 100% FREE SUMMER CAMP! 🌱

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that South Side Consulting has received full philanthropic sponsorship for our upcoming Summer Urban Farming & Youth Leadership Initiative!

Our mission has always been to build ecosystems of opportunity and remove barriers for our youth. Thanks to this incredible support from the Comer Family Foundation, we are waiving our tuition, meaning this 8-week summer program is now 100% FREE for all participating families!

In close partnership with The Black Star Project, we are inviting young people to grow, learn, and lead with us this summer.

✨ What Campers Will Experience:

Hands-On Agriculture: Youth will discover the joy of growing their own food, learning everything from testing soil and planting seeds to harvesting fresh crops.

Urban Farm Field Trips: Campers will journey out as young environmentalists on exciting field trips to community gardens and urban farms to see real-world sustainability in action.

Holistic Leadership & Growth: Beyond farming, our curriculum focuses on financial competency, economic autonomy, grassroots leadership, and neighborhood vitality.

Intergenerational Connection: We create shared experiences that bridge generations, nurturing a lifelong connection to sustainable food, nature, and community growth.

📅 Program Details:

Dates: July 6 – August 29, 2026 (8 Weeks).

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.

Age Group: Open to youth ages 11–18.

Location: Garden of 5700 S. Calumet Avenue, Chicago, IL (Washington Park/Hyde Park).

We are so excited to announce the Grow Your Future: Summer Urban Farming Camp!
