Hi everyone, today we wanted to share some recent work we did for

"Roots in the Ocean”

The ocean is a graveyard, but it is also a bridge. The starting point of a forced separation, while being the connection between newfound homelands. My work lives in the heavy space between those two realities: honoring the lives lost during the Middle Passage, while fiercely protecting the unyielding beauty of the global African diaspora.

Though history is heavy, the aesthetic is celebratory. I use vibrant color and surreal interpretations to show the joy, uniqueness, and beauty of a people who reshaped the world. Like the culture, the ocean is vast and beautiful, and holds an immense power while demanding respect. There is also an exploration of a brutal, quiet tension—the choice between living in bo***ge, or paying a high and controversial price for choice and freedom.

Pigment printed on archival cotton rag paper, flush mounted to ACM board with aluminum cleats & bumpers.
