MAIA Biotechnology (NYSE: MAIA) has received regulatory approval from Spain’s Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) and Portugal’s National Authority of Medicines and Health Products (INFARMED) to begin screening patients for its pivotal Phase 3 THIO-104 clinical trial in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Spain and Portugal expand the geographic footprint of THIO-104, which has enrolled 60 NSCLC patients across 29 clinical sites in six European countries and 10 sites in Taiwan to date.

MAIA Biotechnology (NYSE: MAIA) has reached 65 randomized patients in its pivotal Phase 3 THIO-104 clinical trial evaluating ateganosine as a third-line treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer.

THIO-104 currently has 38 activated trial sites across six countries: Taiwan, Romania, Turkey, Georgia, Poland and Hungary. Additional clinical sites are expected to begin enrolling patients, with MAIA’s goal of reaching more than 100 randomized patients by year-end.

The U.S. expansion is supported by a $2.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the study has now enrolled patients across four continents.

MAIA Biotechnology (NYSE: MAIA) presented new research at XXVI International Round Table on Nucleosides, Nucleotides and Nucleic Acids, examining next-generation telomere-targeting prodrugs designed to attack tumors through multiple mechanisms. The oral and poster presentations featured novel divalent candidates combining ateganosine with a complementary DNA-targeting agent.

Testing across cell-based studies and preclinical in vivo tumor models identified structural features associated with increased anticancer activity, helping guide optimization of these next-generation candidates.

Initial efficacy findings from Part C of MAIA Biotechnology's Phase 2 THIO-101 expansion trial were consistent with the encouraging efficacy signals previously reported for Parts A and B, despite evaluating a more heavily pre-treated third-line NSCLC patient population.

Part C included patients who had previously received docetaxel and demonstrated resistance to both immunotherapy and other chemotherapies.
