Earlier in my career it was hard for me to talk about my wins. I didn’t think it was necessary because I was “just” doing my job. Meanwhile, I was excelling or better put, killing the game.
Honestly, it felt uncomfortable and sometimes still does. (A lot of cultural, gender and societal norms to unpack there)

As I progressed in my career I realized I had to make my contributions to the team known. This better set me up as a thought leader and collaborator and ultimately for growth in my career.

As I spoke more openly about my wins I became known as a problem solver, innovator, coach and business development 👸🏾

In order to be recognized for your hard work you have to make it known.
Showcase your work in your next 1:1, team meeting, performance review or interview.

How to talk about your accomplishments Pt. 1

✨Who was involved? Was this a solo win or a team effort?

✨What was the project? Be specific about the project scope and goals

✨What was the timeline? Did you meet the deadline?

✨How did you do it? Be specific about the action YOU took

If you don’t brag on yourself, who will?

Have you checkin in with what you need lately?
Your schedule, priorities, emotions and focus can changes daily.
Balance is about recognizing and meeting your needs in the moment.

🌟 Have you asked yourself what you need today? Ask: How am I feeling right now?
🌟 Do you reprioritize tasks or goals when needed? Reschedule: the nonessential meeting or social meet up when feeling overwhelmed
🌟 Do you take time for breaks? Try: A walk around the block or a breathing exercise

How do you take care of your needs daily? Comment 👇

My manager committed to promoting me this year. I had stellar reviews and now I hear crickets..

Reflect with me:
1. How can you have a safe conversation to hold your manager accountable for their commitment?
Safe can mean: 💫 environment (time & place) 💫 having the artifacts backing your case 💫 rehearsing how you will approach the question.. what else?

2. Is this a pattern in your relationship? Patterns give us information we can action on.

** Caption Friendly Disclaimer - Self- Advocacy is hard & skillset strengthened over time. Burnout is a unique experience that can sometimes feel isolating. Have you experienced work environments where advocating for yourself was THE only option. Many times in my career, I could not rely on a manager, sponsor or mentor to communicate my needs.

1. When was the last time you asked for what you need at work? More time off, reprioritizing a project? Help communicating with a difficult colleague?

2. Self- Advocacy is a muscle that HAS to be built. After asking for what you need we have to…Learn to feel comfortable hearing no, not now, not yet and following up with a… if not now, then when?

3. AND what opportunities do I have access to in the meantime until I can have (insert need)?

I have worked to advocate for:
✨a balanced work schedule
✨boundaries around toxic team members
✨more pay and a title that reflected my work and leadership
✨projects that aligned with my interest
✨& so many other areas that would allow me to be more fulfilled at work.

What needs have you kept silent? What do you need more or less off at work? 👇🏾👇🏾

What is your WHY?
THE driving force behind my work is working with inspirational women like Marcia. (👋🏾👋🏾 girl)I am beyond grateful to be allowed into intimate spaces of doubt, triumph, challenge, confusion and ultimately clarity.

Here’s to more brave women looking to challenge the way they think, work and relate professionally and personally!

(Full) “Tino helped me bring my whole self to work, own my voice, bring my unique POV to work and refine my communication skills to name a few. These have all been key to the work I do and crafting the career I want for myself. Additionally, I am able to identify my skill set, advocate for myself and the work that I do and seek out the opportunities I want for myself. I find myself better able to use the language of the consulting space I'm in which makes things easier.”

Smiling from the inside! 🥰

Happy Sunday Friends! How are you spending your Sunday funday? 📖💃🏾🛌

I love spending my lazy days reading. Wether I am outside in a park or by the water or lounging on my couch with a candle burning. Either way, I make sure to set the mood! 😂

Reading transports me into alternate realities (I loveeee a good dystopian novel). A good novel allows me to experience adventure, relationships, grief, joy, fear, and other layers of the human experience through the lense of a captivating protagonist(s).

I have finally moved on to my next treasure, The Office of Historical Corrections by Danielle Evans.

Let’s not talk about how long it took me to reread Americanah……588 PAGES, y’all 😅. Homegirl (Mrs. Adiche lol) wrote her but off though!

Here is what the NYT said about my current read:
“Sublime short stories of race, grief and belonging.. extraordinary.”

What is your WHY? THE driving force behind my work is working with inspirational women like Olivia. I am beyond grateful to be allowed into intimate spaces of doubt, triumph, challenge, confusion and ultimately clarity. Here’s to more brave women looking to challenge the way they think, work and relate professionally and personally!

(FULL) “Tino challenged me with two critical questions as I was contemplating an internal position: 1) Are you running to something or away from something? and 2) What's the opportunity cost of taking this role? I will always ask myself these questions when I think about my next career move. I also am better equipped to improve my interview stories and add enough detail to ensure that my interviewer understands the stakes. Finally, Tino pushed me to reconsider my definition of "impact" by asking what things would not have happened without me -- even if those things seem small to me. As a Black woman, I also wholeheartedly appreciated working with a Black woman who understands the nuances that we face as we navigate our careers. She acknowledged those difficulties while encouraging me to work past them. I'd highly recommend Tino to any professional looking for top-tier coaching as they approach the next phase of their career.”

Midday Affirmation:

“I will show love and support in ways that don’t betray myself.”

Check in with yourself first y’all. 👆🏽

Ask yourself what you need more of or less of. More time alone? More movement throughout the day? A more flexible schedule to allow you to show up fully for your family?

Only after you have reflected on your needs and venture to meet them, will you be able to show up fully for those around you.

What do you need today? ❤️
