A €1.4 billion luxury resort linked to Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners would reshape the uninhabited island of Sazan and the protected Vjosë-Narta lagoon, one of the Adriatic's most important wild coasts.
In late April, machinery began clearing the protected zone before any environmental study was finished. The habitat at stake is home to greater flamingos, Dalmatian pelicans, Mediterranean monk seals — among the rarest marine mammals on Earth — and loggerhead sea turtles.
More than 40 environmental groups have called for the project to be suspended. Thousands are marching in Tirana under three words: "Albania is not for sale."
