In the late fall, Bobber, Teich & Pippin LLC former partner Alan Karpel secured an important arbitration decision awarding workers’ compensation benefits to a 50-year-old fire captain from a southwest suburban department who was diagnosed with malignant melanoma. The arbitrator determined that his cancer was caused by his occupation—marking what is believed to be the first Illinois case awarding workers’ compensation benefits for melanoma.

The employer has appealed the decision, and the matter is now pending before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission. We are proud to stand alongside the firefighters and first responders who put their health on the line every day, and we remain committed to advocating for the protections they deserve. Bobber, Teich & Pippin attorney Dominick Ranallo recently secured a confidential settlement on behalf of a woman who suffered serious injuries due to a nurse’s negligent mishandling of her permanent medical device. The case stemmed from an incident in which a healthcare provider’s improper actions caused significant harm to the client, requiring ongoing medical care and recovery. Although the defendant initially denied any wrongdoing, the firm’s thorough investigation uncovered key evidence demonstrating the nurse’s negligence and the resulting damage to the client’s health and quality of life. Attorney Ranallo and his team were able to present compelling evidence that led to a favorable resolution for the client—without the need to file suit. This outcome reflects Bobber, Teich & Pippin’s commitment to thorough preparation, compassionate client service, and effective negotiation in even the most complex medical malpractice matters.Read more here:

Bobber, Teich & Pippin are proud to announce a recent settlement on behalf of our 60-year-old Spanish-speaking client. In 2021, while working as a laborer, he suffered a serious left shoulder injury lifting heavy material. Despite multiple surgeries and his treating surgeon releasing him without restrictions, he faced significant pain and was unable to perform heavy work. Our team quickly stepped in, securing evaluations from expert physicians and vocational counselors. Their reports were crucial in establishing that his injuries resulted in a significant and permanent disability, making him unable to return to work. We successfully ensured he received nearly four years of off-work benefits, full payment of past medical bills, a lifelong medical annuity for future care, and a lump-sum settlement of approximately $425,000.00. This outcome provided him with the justice he deserves, and we are committed to fighting for this same justice for each of our clients.

Bobber, Teich & Pippin secure confidential settlement on behalf of a construction laborer who suffered severe injuries due to the negligent operation of a ready mix concrete truck. Our client was working on an elevated platform pouring concrete from a chute attached to the back of a ready mix concrete truck. The truck driver negligently unlocked the chute without warning, causing it to swing into our client and knocking him off the platform to the ground below. Partner Michael Teich and associate Dominick Ranallo filed suit against the trucking company responsible for the injuries. The company initially denied they were at fault, but our investigation and litigation convinced the company to agree to settle the case for a confidential sum in favor of our client. Bobber, Teich & Pippin attorneys Michael Teich and Myles Maltz recently obtained a $1.825 million settlement on behalf of a 24 year old woman who suffered severe injuries when the car she was riding in was struck by a semi truck. The trucking company denied that it was responsible for the crash, but traffic camera video obtained by our office demonstrated that the driver made a left turn into oncoming traffic which caused the crash. Our client suffered a skull fracture, multiple broken bones, a concussion with ongoing headaches, a facial nerve injury and scarring to her face, arm and chest. She underwent multiple surgeries and continues to experience the effects of the trucking company’s negligence. The case settled shortly before trial. Read more here:

03/21/2025

Here at BTP, we recognize March as Brain Injury Awareness Month—a time to acknowledge the sometimes life-altering consequences of the various types of injuries that can impact the brain. Brain injury is a broad category, spanning from headaches and momentary confusion to concussions, post-concussion syndrome, and traumas that produce more profound long-term effects. All of these injuries must be taken seriously, as they can produce lifelong effects such as memory loss, alterations in personality, cognitive impairment, mobility issues, and more.

Each brain injury presents differently, and we treat every case with the individuality and seriousness it deserves, demonstrating to juries, mediators, and arbitrators how our clients' injuries affect their lives. At Bobber, Teich, and Pippin, we have considerable experience handling the entire spectrum of brain injury cases from a variety of sources—including motor vehicle accidents, workplace accidents, negligence, and product failures—and we have been successful in obtaining fair compensation for our clients who have been affected by these types of injuries and, as a result, have suffered short-term problems or lifelong disabilities.
