Three Nurses' Week presentations done - 2 more to go! Humbled and grateful for the opportunity to remind nurses...we didn't choose to become a nurse because it was easy - we chose to become a nurse because what we do matters.

Happy Nurses' Week!

šŸŽ™ļø New Coffee Break episode just dropped!

One thing I’ve learned about leadership over the years?
Your team pays far more attention to what you DO than what you SAY.

In this episode, I sat down with Jennylynde Renteria-Packham to talk about what it really takes to lead with clarity, confidence, and consistency…especially in stressful healthcare environments.

One of my favorite takeaways was the idea of the ā€œpowerful pause.ā€
That moment where instead of reacting emotionally, you pause, regulate yourself, and respond intentionally. Such a simple concept, but it can completely shift communication, trust, and team culture.

We also talked about:
šŸ’™ Self-awareness in leadership
šŸ’™ Building psychological safety
šŸ’™ Setting healthy boundaries
šŸ’™ Empowering your team instead of rescuing them
šŸ’™ Why leadership starts with managing your own internal dialogue

Leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about showing up consistently in a way that makes people feel safe, supported, and respected.

Happy Nurses Week! šŸ’™

To every nurse who stayed late, mentored a new grad, comforted a patient, spoke up for safety, or kept going despite exhaustion…thank you.

This week, let’s celebrate nurses AND reflect on the culture we’re creating for one another.

The future of nursing depends on more than recruitment. It depends on support, mentorship, kindness, and respect.

You may never realize it, but your encouragement could be the reason another nurse stays. šŸ’™

I love this…because it’s such a powerful reminder that success isn’t always loud or flashy.

Sometimes it looks like choosing kindness when it would be easier not to, lifting up our co-workers instead of tearing them down, or simply showing up as the kind of person who makes someone else’s day a little better.

At the end of the day, that’s the kind of impact that really matters.

Let’s be intentional about the good we bring into the world. Every. Single. Day. šŸ’›

New episode on the Coffee Break episode with Hunter Joslin… and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since we stopped recording. This one hit different.

Here’s the reality: We keep trying to fix problems in healthcare without fully understanding them first.

And it’s not working.

We talked about:
✨ Incivility and how it’s quietly impacting psychological safety
✨ Why old strategies aren’t cutting it anymore
✨ What happens when leaders actually listen to their teams in real time

The part that really got me was a real example where turnover dropped from 22% to 9%… just by doing things differently.

Let that sink in.

If you care about culture, leadership, and creating a healthy work environment then you need to hear this one.

Workplace Violence Awareness Month isn’t just about patients or families being violent.

It also includes how co-workers treat each other.

Bullying. Incivility. Verbal aggression.

And here’s the truth…while we can’t always control patient behavior, we can control our culture.

Safer workplaces start from the inside. šŸ’™

Healthy culture work isn’t failing because leaders don’t care… it’s failing because it’s treated like a ā€œprojectā€ instead of how we lead every day.

In this week’s Coffee Break ā˜• I’m breaking down:
• Why disruptive leaders must be addressed by their peers
• The mistake senior leaders make when they bypass managers
• How physician engagement really starts
• And why HR should be at the table from day one

If you want a healthy workforce, culture has to show up in your daily conversations, huddles, and expectations… not just in a one-time initiative.

What’s been the biggest challenge in sustaining culture where you work?

04/15/2026

A healthy workplace culture doesn’t just happen…

It’s built. And most leaders aren’t given the tools to actually build it.

In this episode, I sat down with Dr. Karen Uttaro and we talked about what it *really* takes to support leaders…especially after everything we’ve seen post-pandemic.

Not more long trainings no one remembers…

But:
✨ Bite-sized learning
✨ Real conversations with peers
✨ Ongoing support (not one-and-done)

Because if we expect leaders to address incivility and create psychological safety…

We have to equip them to do it.

Had a powerful conversation with Dr. John Voight on the Coffee Break podcast and I can’t stop thinking about this…

We have to stop being reactive when it comes to workplace violence.

Security alone isn’t the solution.

What if we started identifying the early signs?
What if we trained our teams to anticipate aggression?
What if leaders actually listened before things escalated?

That’s exactly what we talked about in this episode.

From tools like STAMP to real leadership strategies like listening tours and town halls, this is about creating a culture where safety isn’t just a response… it’s built into how we care for our teams every day.

Because when co-workers feel heard, they feel safe.

Let’s keep doing the work to create healthier, safer environments… our teams deserve it.
