Having a son this year made winnowing necessary, blowing away the excess to make room for him. And now the holiday season is nearly here and I'm thinking about what feels meaningful and what just feels obligatory or busy-making. Sharing food, cooking, eating, mailing is what makes the holidays special for me, as it is, no doubt, for you. And with that simple recognition I know how lucky I am to never worry about where my next meal is coming from. Over 800,000 of our neighbors in Cook County are not so lucky, and I've decided to participate in a virtual food drive for the Greater ‪Chicago Food‬ Depository, which provides meals directly to people and through food pantries. There's no need to go to the store and buy a bunch of canned goods: thanks to the Food Depository’s buying power $1 buys 3 meals.

All rental orders placed between now and ‪December 31st‬ will have 20% of their total order donated to the Greater ‪Chicago Food‬ Depository. Host a holiday dinner or cocktail party and you'll be sharing your good fortune with your neighbors.
