The Print Mongers is a printmaking club based in Chicago which offers semesterly memberships to anyone interested in learning about this art form, with tutorials offered in screen printing, letter pressing, and relief printing. Although we do accept any aspiring printers into our club, our main focus is on reaching out to Chicago’s university students, especially those majoring in fields related t
o art and design. The club was founded in the spring of 2011 when Alex Hayashi and Lefie Lindokken, freshmen students at the University of Illinois at Chicago discovered a similar interest in screen printing. Art Center, these three and a group of five other students were able to gather supplies, generate interest, and organize this dream into a reality. Now years later, the number of semesterly memberships has nearly quadrupled in size from the original group, and The Print Mongers are proud to have introduced over five hundred students and community members to the joys of screen printing. Currently located in Suite 017 of the Zhou B. Art Center in Chicago, The Print Mongers opens the doors of their studio to partake in the Bridgeport Art Walk on the third Friday of every month. We use this opportunity to not only put up an exhibit of our members’ hard work but to also conduct screen printing demos during the shows for visitors to try their hand at pulling ink, turning the entire show into an art-making experience. Though no longer solely affiliated with UIC, The Print Mongers still hosts numerous events on-campus for various other clubs and events every semester, too. We will provide invaluable experience to artists at any skill level, along with the opportunity for students to network within Chicago’s art community while still attending school. Whether you are looking to master a versatile media, learn a cool hobby, curate an art show, throw a party event, offer your expertise, meet some new friends, sponsor a non-for-profit, or simply support the arts, you have come to the right place. The Print Mongers welcomes you to attend any of our open houses, consider signing up for a semester, and never hesitate to contact us with any questions or for more information.
